I have a small grow box say 2X5X5 & I have a 6" cana filter with an inline fan on it. Its worked great now for 2 years (i dont grow all year, jsut a few months type thing)
Anyways

Can you clean them out? I heard that tapping them a few times will give them a longer life but I wondered if you could wash them, like with soapy water then dry it out again & start all over? Will it wash the particles out of the carbon where its trapped or should I just replace it? Its still working fine. No smells yet, but I's just redoing my box & making it a bit larger so I was going to freshen up the filter a bit before installing it or just spend another hundred or so & have a spare there so when this one finally craps out I can just swap it out right away?

I dont want to try it & totally destroy the filter I have now. Might get another grow or 2 out of it.

Advice..??

Thanks in advance!

cmon, even a bigger filter like a can 50 doesn't really cost that much, a couple pennies a day really.odor will get you arrested, don't skimp. and if a filter is made refillable that would be fine to replace the carbon but I've heard at least one horror story of a diy carbon filter busting open on a grow, try smoking that shit and see if it doesn't crackle and pop.

I must agree .. can get a new filter for like 40$ .. I don't see it as a big spend as it last atlest 4-5 grows (don't run it in Veg and it will last you twise as long)

but yea can get a big bucket with 10 kg for like 50$ maybe .. that would last you a decade Im sure ..

tho I have been told that the one you buy to replace it .. is`t as effective as the carbon they use in the filters you buy .. dunno ? have`t try ..

can get it online or in fish/pet shops ..

or go to your local "walmart/Lowers" and get a few of them

it is replacement filters for cooker ventilators ..

and cost 10-15$ at my local "walmart" depending of type (as you dont need it to fit go for a two pack or the biggest that give you the most carbon)

then just strip em apart ...

depending on your filter size I reccon two of them two packets will fill it up (Im sure it would fill mine up)
and I gave 12$ for one (used it for a DIY filter .. have a normal big 6" can filter on my 600W cool hood)
