Really, the big thing I like about the Gavita, is that it has the ballast built onto the reflector. And that save you a significant amount of install time.

I know the exact model reflector that I would recommend and why. A wrong decision here blows your chances of achieving the results I detailed earlier.

If your ballast craps out?? I hate these.

Can't put ballast out of the room if you want either. Gavitas are overpriced junk imo.

Well you can experiment and go through trial and error. I've mentioned super hortilux and lumatek (no fan model). The choice of reflector is super critical imo.

I agree completely. And that is why I've spent a fair amount of time doing things like spectral analysis of bulbs with different ballasts, as well as photometric modeling of various reflectors in a program called Photopia. Sure, I could place a PPFD sensor at a ton of points on the ground, but having a clearer picture was important. However, I have not so far as modeled every reflector I can find. That's a lot of work, and I'm not done yet.

This is an emission graph of the Hortilux 1000W HPS though: http://i.imgur.com/F0vxUBs.jpg

Modeling reflectors in software is interesting, the nerd in me is intrigued. I am however more interested in modeling pot in reality. ;)

Everything takes time and resources. And I'm getting to the stages where I feel I have enough information to start doing true scientific experiments on growing.
