a simple cloning experiment

soil cloning or water cloning? i think i have the answer
at least for this strain/pheno and setup
it's not even close, soil is way better, and that's without rooting compound
now this was a crude setup, just a small bottle with water
the more elaborate setups likely will have different results
but this is for those of us that need to be cost effective

now to be fair, the bulb was upgraded to 27w
the water clone roots were not huge when i placed it in soil
so the water clone got a bit of light poisoning, it could have been treated better
i didn't have a spare chamber, but it's still a useful comparison

water clone is in the middle, clone on left was the 1st soil clone
the clone of the right was a week younger than the 1st soil clone
the left one has gotten too big! i turned my back and it ran for the light
i've transplanted the clone on the right, better size

Although I've heard a few people say not to..you could try using sugar water.

Just dissolve as much sugar into your water as possible and water a freshly cut clone with it.

Glucose after all is what they use to grow!


I was actually considering setting up a mass experiment using clones.

Getting lots of experienced growers (from all over the world) to clone around 10 plants (keeps it easier to work out later on) then using different methods we'd be able to compare results and see which solution/method created the best clone results. Examples would be something like : sugar water, water, superthrive mixed with water, rooting hormones etc etc.

'internet tests' is an interesting thought, we could do some pretty large scale tests if it could get organized
for the moment, i'm going to be sticking with soil for clones, it's my best result anyways

i transplanted the smaller one just after the pic was taken, pretty close to being root bound
had filled out the bottom of the pot

success, all cuttings rooted, even the water cutting
clones are usually pretty small, not sure what baby clone is, but dixie cup is smaller than what i used
so watch for getting root bound pretty quick

dude just did a clone on one of my sativa, place it in a jar wrapped in foil paper poke a hole on top, insert stem. wat ima do is soak it overnight in hormex root booster (the only thing available) then transplant it straight to soil outdoors, place it inside the aquarium filled with 2 inch of water for humidity purpose then wrap the aquarium with trasparent book plastic cover. did these on a pine tree cuttings and worked for almost a month until i got tired and threw it, these was before i even started planting marijuana. hope these works "less drama" ima try wat you did though did you use any lights?

it could work, but you'll have to be careful on how much light it gets
i'd think direct sun would probably kill it in short order
i used a single 13w daylight cfl in a pc case

I've rooted 18/20 clones in soil with a lil perlite added. Works like a charm, all root within 2 weeks.
