A test in progress.... Miracle Grow soil vs. Fox Farms soil. Is MG really that bad?

And there it is in a nutshell....... absolutely no idea, yet you said it. MG kicks ass, plain and simple. Hell, this thread is proving it if you'd pay attention....

Yeah man, I can honestly say that I'm a bit surprised at the results, so far. Ya know, I really don't see where MG can be labeled as a "hot soil" either. None of those plants have so much as a burnt leaf tip, let alone, be close to overfert. Okay, let the arguements continue....lol

looks pretty necj and neck.
and as for the plants that are not looking so good i would save them, they arent more then 50 percent dead, and im sure with a bigger pot they would perck right up, those cups are to small

Oh yeah, I know that. The thing is, I'm going back to work,(and won't have as much free time) and am planning on scaling way back, so I don't need 'em. They should've been transplanted 3 weeks ago, if I'd planned on keeping 'em, but i just haven't had the heart to kill them.lol But, the thing is, now I won't have to start any clones, since I stalled them for so long, and they'll be ready in 4 weeks, to keep my perpetual going. Good idea, I think I'll save the other two phenos, until I get to test them all, in a couple weeks. Hmm....

The MG plants have a slight edge, but not much. Still impressive though, huh?

Thanks for making me look dumb Jack. I actually thought that since its legal there, and you have the millions of marijuana-growing products that you guys might actaully have a special soil that tends to all the needs of a cannabis plant. I was too stoned to post that saying "soils in cali". I'm sorry for assuming something about your beloved home state.
umb,Around here, I can't get my hands on the same brands of soil you guys do, and I thought it was only sold at special places for "special" purposes.
I go to Home depot and Lowes and I don't see any of the soils usually mentioned on this forum.

Oh and as for nutes, I never had to give my plants anything but distilled water. MG soil has packed nutrients, but as someone mentioned earlier, I don't think it has Magnesium.

Oh and as for the person that couldn't ignore my ignorant post, I said I had no idea, and my post showed it.
fucking forgive me

sorry, i couldn't help it...i tried, i really did...but the darkside had these cookies...and they were really really good cookies....

anyway... can't we all just get along?!!
as far as your assumptions, you didn't know, you shouldn't have said, though honestly i at one point figured they had made specialized soil based on the specific needs of mj, as well as nutes, but no, you just have to figure otu what the numbers mean and give them as needed. go fig.
and in conclusion, You are not only forgiven, you are fucking forgiven. go in peace my son and spread the fuck...:hump:

You are a good, honest man indeed.

I really didn't mean any hostilities to anyone, I'm just defending myself

Tried to rep for this one cause I love the dark cookies as well. Apparently I'm rep-less atm.

Sorry Dude,

I wasn't trying to make you feel stupid. Actually (all though I was pretty beered up and smoked out myself when I made that post) I was trying to help keep you from catching to much grief from some of the other participants in this thread.

I'm not in CA and really couldn't care less about all the specialty, high end cannabis growing products the people there have available to them. All though my State did legalized Medical Marijuana a couple years back I was growing (or trying to grow) for 4 or 5 years before that happened. Even now that it's been supposedly "legalized" I have no desire to become part of that program.

We've had a few of those specialty cannabis growing stores open up around here that sell all these specialty soils and nutes you see mentioned in the forums but I don't go any where near them. While that's mainly based on security concerns I also just don't think it's necessary to spend the kind of money those places charge for those specialty weed growing products in order for a man to grow himself some quality weed. In fact it's become kind of a "point of pride" with me that everything I use comes from places like Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware or the other regular Garden, Greenhouse and Nurserry businesses in my area.

I don't look at this thread so much as a contest between Miracle Grow and Fox Farm products as I do as a way to communicate with others who are growing in MG in hopes of "fine tuning" and improving my use of that product. So since you're also growing in MG why don't you and I just back up a step and start our cyber-relationship over. O.K.?

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Jack

I actually posted that post with a little bit of an anger venting attitude. I had a bad day, and I've been off the herb for about a week now, and it can make me easily agitated at the world
I have no doubt you guys are more experienced than me, because I am still on my first grow.

Please, take nothing my biopolar ass says seriously haha
You guys are good people

I am very satisfied with how this thread turned out. I can't count how many times I've heard random people say MG is the worst soil to grow in. It's pretty legit. As I said earlier, I have never had to add anything to my water:)

looks as though the most recent pics have FF catching up.. pretty much a dead heat I'd say? still a victory thus far for MG... can't wait for the harvest, weight, and whatnot.

All this bickering in the thread though really turns me off from posting. Just hope jawbrodt keeps it going and updates it.. keep your head above the shit brother!

:| so....you were turned on before?!
thats it, folks, we gotta keep this bickering going, this shit isn't turning into a love fest, not while I'm here! sicko's!!!:cuss:

dude, he snapped while sober, and it hurt your delicate sensitivities?! How 'bout some empathy? Some understanding? Compassion, maybe, instead of complaining about how his bad day was a turn off... or, if you really feel bad about it, toss him some nug, that would show some love ;)

No worries, that crap doesn't bother me.lol I've been through heroin addiction, jail 5 or 6 times, child abuse, etc...and a little bit of bickering, is childs play, to me. Kinda entertaining, actually.

On a more serious note... the test has already proved to me, that MG performs just as well as FF's, as long as people will take the extra time to add perlite. IMO, drainage is the great equalizer, with just about any soil.(unless it has major PH problems, from the beginning. Lime can fix that in most cases, as well) The nutrients, are the grower's responsibility, and as long as the roots are aerated and happy, any soil can perform on par with the most expensive out there. 90%+ of soil problems, are the growers fault, IMO.

i totally agree with you. i have the same test going right now i got FF light warrior for 6 plants and MG organics choice for 4. just started them the other day so well see how it goes. used MG on last grow and it turned out superb.

I grew a decent crop in MG potting soil last year, first grow, small amount of extra nutes at end of grow, no controlled ph, etc. ended up doing ok. got 2 O's of dry weed off it

Well, it's only been like 2 days, but since they're looking so nice, I'm posting some updated pics. That pheno on the left(the first two plants), is a vigorous motherfucker, and looks to be a keeper. I'll be testing the smoke in a coule weeks, so let's hope it's up to specs.lol :weed:

The first 4 pics are the MG plants, and that next 4 are the FF plants. Looks pretty even, but, the FF's are still a tad smaller. It's close, for sure. In the pics with all four plants, pics 1 and 3, are the MG plants, and 2 and 4, are the FF plants.

Try not to make fun of my dying gals in the background. They're scrap that I didn't have room for. Damn.lol
