yeah, i'm going to run a half dose for the first 2 weeks. i just checked them and one's got really serious brown spots on it. i'm assuming nute deficiency, which i will fix first thing in the morning with the new nutes. headin out of town for the weekend, will post new pics when i get back if there's been substantial new growth.
Well be standing by!

ok. here we are day 15. the 2 that are tied up are growing much faster than the other 3. any suggestions on procedure? i was going to top the 2 tall ones and let the others catch up. or maybe LST? also, the one with the brown spots, the stalks/branches are starting to turn a red color. is this a sickness or just a funky strain? that's about it so far. just waiting a week and going to up the concentration of nutes, then another week and go hardcore pound-fuck strength. oh, and the last pic is of my ph tester. just threw that in there. lemme know what everyone thinks.

oh, and vette and sicc and anyone else w/ AG experience...how far should i let the stalk grow above the node i want to top at? should i let it just get high enough to slip the scissors in and snip or what? i think i'm going to have to top the 2 taller ones after 3 nodes so the small ones can keep up

They look mighty stretched ,, Lower them Into the sponges .. cause whats going to happen is as they grow they will snap the stem and die .. put them down in the sponge till the 1st set of leaves

how should i do it? just push them down? or do i need to pull them out, make a hole, and put them back in? b/c there's already a decent amount of roots.

It may be too late , if you have a lot of roots ,, I split my foam in 1/2 longways an guided the stem down and through the center hole of the basket

I had roots too but i was just gentle

they're grown a lot over the past 24 hours just from havin the lights closer. i'm starting the flora series in the morning when the light comes on. hopefully we'll get some explosive growth tomorrow!
Next grow, put a small fan ($10) on them as soon as they pop. Not only will it thicken the stems, it'll keep your grow surface and your reservoir cooler as well.

alright. post-op pics below. i seriously damaged the root system on the 2 smaller ones, but didn't break the stem or destroy ALL the roots. they're basically clones now. the other 3 are fine i think. just got a bunch of clones :) hopefully this won't happen again. i'm not even using the AG hood for my next grow, so i'll be able to put the light as far away or as close as i need to. homegrownhairy, i tried the fan with this grow, but they were already stretching, hence the tie-ups in the pics before. thanks for all the advice, it's going in my grow notebook so that i won't make the same mistake(s) again!

really? i keep hearing to keep them within a couple inches of the leaves. i'll raise it up a few more. so should i start doing this with all my seeds? once they've sprouted, move them down in the cups so as to keep them short?

You want them down low so the roots wrap all around the basket to support the plant as it grows and matures

i see. well, then it prob won't work this time b/c the bottom of the shoot is like 2 inches below the bottom of the basket now. they're basically in the res. about topping...you said you do it at 5 nodes...is this personal pref? i had read you can do it as early as 3 nodes, but i don't want to stunt the plant. i am however, only vegging for 5 weeks and flowering for the same. short grow to get it down before the primo seeds arrive from attitude.

They look much better lowered. And im sorry Korvette I STRONGLY disagree with the light height. n00604173 Please keep them 1" to 1.5" away from the lights max, or else they will stretch all over again. Not only that but close lights allow the plant to photosynthesize the light more efficiently. Those spots look like a deficiency, are u giving them any food yet?

That light will cook them at 1'' away I have a Pro 200 and I know its gotta be at least 3'' away and I never had a stretching problem,, But hey Its just me ,, do as you wish.. :hump:

Mine stretched as well, but the fan strenghtened the stems and they are nice & thick. The lowest position for the light on my AG200 is 7" away from the top of the grow area. They stretched like hell for a few days but the fan stiffened them up.
