Depending on the wattage of your light (250w, 400w, etc...) and the distance you are able to keep it from your canopy every light has an optimal footprint. Here is a handy chart that I use. Out of all that I have seen it is the most accurate. Lumens are actually a measure of light visible to the human eye and really have no use when growing plants. More important are PAR value and Footcandles. So I don't buy into any of the "watts per square foot" or "lumens per square foot" talk that goes on.

thread bump for the light chart above. I have been reviewing a number of threads on lighting, and I thought this was a unique presentation that was of value.

I wondered similar things. Then I started seeing people who were vegging for like 8-12 weeks - considering I only veg for 3 weeks I put a lot of their extra yield down to that.

The guy who said to concentrate on getting quality and enjoying what you're doing has the right idea in my opinion.
