Anyone find autos a waste of time?

ive had a few successful harvests but ultimately im not impressed.

I dont find autos enjoyable either they are very underpowered or its cbd hemp.

anytime i have smoke of an auto strain ot just spaces me out but no enjoyable psychoactive effects seems to me to be more a CBD space out .

surely im not the only one . autos are a waste of time and money unless your a breeder

Autos are great in numerous ways. Effect and taste has nothing to do with it! Pick better strains/genetics. If u know how to grow u know how to grow. Just had 3 finish up in 75 days start to finish that smelt and taste amazing. 6 1/2oz total in a 2x2. Twizzler, Sour Apple and Bisbee Sunrise. I've grown reg and autos that I didn't like. Finishing regs now. Alot of factors can kill taste but most times the high is genetics first then how u grew it and if u harvested at rt time and dried properly.

I found autos to be pretty good if done right. Mephisto, night owl, coastal Mary, divine seed, AMS seeds, all have pretty good genetics from my experience.

Not original poster but I’ve posted this pic before… and this one was 65 days pop to chop.
I posted this one at 190 dry before but looking in my photos, it was 145 dry.
Yeah, got some stems so like 140… in 65 days…

Not a fan. I'll do one every now and then outdoors but thats about it.

Just go look at the autoflower threads. Plenty of fine looking harvests there. I recently harvested two Runtz autos from Barney’s. As an experiment, took one down early in the harvest window (75 days, around 90% brown pistils, mainly cloudy trikes). Pulled the other about two weeks later (quite a bit of amber, etc). Both kick ass and are reaffirmation that autos can produce fine herb in a fairly short window. Why doubt this with so many experienced, documented grows out there. You don’t have to grow them. You don’t have to ignorantly demean them either.

I grow autos and photos. Autos are much trickier...for me anyway. If you really are interested in autos, I would stick with it until you get the hang of it. If you were unsuccessful it isn't the fault of the autos.

keep hearing this rhetoric over and over , what is this magical growing method that is just unknown to those who have not been impressed with autos. i have had you could say perfect harvest with autos but in the end very underwhelmed. maybe this is from starting smoking with high thc hash for nearly a decade before weed who knows.

autos to me, sure look the part, smell the part but cant say ive actually had an enjoyable high

Wow, quit buying hemp.

Two things about autos:

1) my opinion, from a breeder standpoint they take more work than just chucking an S1.

2) Stop blaming shitty growing techniques on ruderalis

I had nothing but good experiences with autos.

Like anything else, there will be potent plants, and bland plants.

Idk how long you've been smoking/growing, but part of the "journey" is figuring out what you like, what gets you high, and what gives you the kind of high you like.

Then figure out what breeders have the best examples of the things you like.

Forget about the auto vs photo debate, it's pointless.

Well said. Although, I wouldn't say the debate is pointless, because IMO the biggest reason to even discuss autos vs. photos is the whole "day neutral" thing; generally speaking it's regarded as "easier" to grow but I think the general consensus is that photos are actually easier due to your control over flowering. Having an auto start flowering when you aren't prepared for it, can trip you up as a new grower.

Autos have their place. They're perfect for situations where you can't reliably give a plant 12 hours of darkness, or outdoor situations where you need the fastest possible finisher. I totally agree though that autos aren't any easier than photos. That's nothing more than a myth propagated by auto seed makers.

You seem to have decided that any relevant knowledge in growing autos can't be valid because it doesn't dovetail with what you already know. I'm not sure what conversation you want to have then.?

For anyone who has an open mind on the topic...for a good while last year I had a stash of some Auto 3 Bears BOG I grew myself, plus several photo flowers I picked up in Portland.

Each dispensary made solid recommendations and the flower was exactly as they described it. But from my point of view, the auto 3BOG that I grew myself was equal. Terps, high, density, euphoria, relaxing...all there. Those criteria are not in all autos...but they aren't in all photos either.

Memphisto Fourm Stomper took em down Saturday but it was 76 days. So I ran a day over. Good chit.

I have grown autos a few times (first time with some old auto freebies going on 10 years ago) and completely understand the spaced out feeling. The more recent ones looked better but after smoking I would think I might be getting high but 20 minutes later I'm having to smoke something else because the high is just not "well rounded" I don't doubt my receptors might be a little effed up as well or that the last breeder I tried could have been little more than an auto pollen chucker and there are some autos that produce a high more similar to photos I've grown but that has not been the case in my admittedly small sample size (I think it was 2 plants of 2 different strains this last time).

I've grown weak photos where the high goes quick but the auto high just kinda stayed in my head more and without the full body feel. Its not a feeling I'm going for and unless I threw it away I still have some from 2-3 years ago because there's always something else I would rather smoke. Just my personal experience

I grew the autos after I shut things down so I had extra space while vegging out photos. I wont hesitate to try again next time that opportunity comes up cuz you guys are DEFINITELY killing it!

I dunno.. IMO it's "both". We are in no way in a position to discredit someone's personal experience.

Autos can be/are finicky in general, and for every good auto breeder there's probably two or more trash auto breeders. They take WAY MORE skill and love to produce than ANYONE gives them credit for.
