I use an all purpose organic mix which basically has everything in it to get your plant through till harvest time, i got my soil from bunnings for like $13 for 30litres
theres also alot of crap soil mixes at bunnings too, the one im talking about has a pumpkin pictured on the front
nice and healthy looking plants all the time with this soil they thrive in it

Looking to get a power strip and plug in four lightbulb fixtures to use in a pc grow box. To replace one from the states with one that will work in Australia. Basically they look like light bulb fixtures with an outlet plug on the end of each. You then just plug them into the power strip allowing you to screw the cfl bulbs into the power strip. Do such things exist at bunnings or somewhere in oz. Going to check it out today but has anyone done this or seen this before

Hey harvey i got me one of these party light fixtures for like $15 dollars at trash and treasure, i saw this exact same kit at bunnings the other day but they were charging $39 or something, really good if you want a cfl setup you can plug 10 cfl bulbs in and position them how you like

Those y sockets and things you see in the american setups are banned here in aus you wont find those cfl sockets that just plug in to the power strip

i got 2 45w phillips 6500k (veg/blue spectrum) lights from bunnings i think they were around 20 each i use em in my clone/veg cab the globes pretty big but they screw into a standard light socket
off the top of my memory i think its 2500k for flower/red spectrum
at bunnings in the lighting section they have exterior bar holders they had ones that hold 2 or 3 globes i got the 2 holder works a treat its meant to be hard wired but i got a sparky mate to just wire up a plug in lead to it which turns out i could have done as wires are color coded and was easy lol
the globe holders had like a metal cup like holder that i pretty much cut it down to the screw part for the globe

Thanks for the bulb tips i found some cfls at bunnings and they are running fine with no converter, it was the bulbs sent from the states that where no good.

i went with the baton cause the holders swing around and figured that would be handy i cant actually adjust the height of them a fair bit

I use the party lights in my veg box, you can get an arlec set of 10 for $20 at bunnings, and the most cost effective and easy lights I found were the 24w phillips (20w are the same price) I found the <40w globes overly expensive and far to large and cumbersome for a small veg box.

If you got the room though 1200mm Fluoro battens are the most cost effective IMO you can routinely get them from secondhand building supply stores, dump recycling centre's and off ebay/gumtree for ~$10 a dual fixture including globes though they do lose luminescence, they represent the best lumens per watt at ~3500 in a 36w daylight tube and 3200 in a warm white one, plus you can buy tubes from haymans (phillips are best) for $2-3. The 10000k ones do work better but not so much as to justify the crazy cost your better off putting in T5's bought from aquarium stores or a few extra battens.

Oh I forgot the tubes run far cooler ~25 degrees and can be put far closer to your leaves than any cfl bulb without burning I had my plants growing in between the tubes for the best results without any adverse effects.

I didn't know there were any "legit medicinal reasons" in Australia - personally I use it to get shit-faced.
