I ended up going with Yates soil from bunnings, Planted my 2 Auto Shortryder Fem seeds that just cracked, Lights are on!

Anyway I also picked up some yates bulb food just because it has just about every nutrient you can think or, says it can be used for vegetative and flowering. It came in a small square box and it looks like alot of different colored pebbles.

Anyone ever seen this.

[email protected]. Its everywhere dude, why buy the filthy stuff. Bags of dirt are heavy, expensive and full of pathogens.

Anyone can make kick ass soil with little effort and no money.
Download this torrent on permaculture and organic gardening.
It sounds kinda boring but the knowledge you could gain from this stuff will be an invaluable tool in your future outdoor/indoor grows.

I wonder if "dirt in a can" is any good for growing.

Someone should make chronic in a can. bongsmilie
lol i thought about sticking buds in a can i used to work at a fruit cannery and was highly tempted itd last for ages

Hey harvey i got me one of these party light fixtures for like $15 dollars at trash and treasure, i saw this exact same kit at bunnings the other day but they were charging $39 or something, really good if you want a cfl setup you can plug 10 cfl bulbs in and position them how you like

Those y sockets and things you see in the american setups are banned here in aus you wont find those cfl sockets that just plug in to the power strip
good idea bro

Ok so swallowed my paranoia enough to post... Hi fellow Aussies!

Long time toker, first time wannabe grower. Just finished reading the entire thread to make sure I was up on all thing's Aussie-growing and wow what a ride: sex toy injuries, swinging, the rise, fall and return of Yada, was an interesting read  Checked out a lot of your threads and picked up some good tips along the way too.

I've spent the last few months researching, then some more researching, then some more researching until I felt like my head was going to explode and I finally bit the bullet and got things underway.

Spent about $1200 getting setup between Bunnings and DiscountHydro. Built my cabinet out of melamine, using 125w CFL for veg and have a 400w HPS to switch to for flowering. Got the Cyco starter pack with 2 bags of coco and a collection of nutrients.

Would appreciate some criticism/reassurance that what I'm doing is right. I made some stupid rookie mistakes to begin with, first was keeping them in the dark for too long (one stretched a lot) the other was them getting too hot and falling over (happened twice!).

At the moment I'm trying to workout how much/how often I should be watering. I think I was overwatering (every day) as the leaf tips started to curl downwards so I let them dry out for a couple of days before they had their first nutrients. I'm at day 48 from the seeds going into paper towels. Gave them their first dose (week 1 by the feed chart @ half strength) 38 days on the 14/10 and they seemed to do well so on 21/10 I gave them a full dose of week 2.

Anyone else using Cyco with soil? How much/often should I be feeding? The chart tells you to mix X mls per litre and so far I've done this and given 500mls to each plant both times.

My medium is 40% coco, 30% potting mix, 15% perlite, 15% vermiculite and a teaspoon of dolomite lime.

I've got some Northern Lights ferminised from Seedsman thanks to the recommendations in here and the freebie Thai/Haze x Skunk to try once I figure this out :):leaf:

Hi and welcome aboard.

I learn by asking why people do things ... and we can learn together that way :-)

Why do you have potting mix in your "soil"? 70% of your "soil" is inert matter and the low percentage of potting mix seems out of place somehow.

You'll have to let me know how the freebie Thai/Haze x Skunk turn out - I ended up with 2 lots of those seeds to play with ... one day.

I never thought of it like that. I was going to use mainly soil but got the coco in the pack so figured I might as well use it.

Won't be doing the Thai for a while. This is bagseed then I want to try NL. Can't wait to try home grown for the first time :blsmoke:

Keen to see how your collidal silver experiment works out GOD

i was wondering why the soil and the dolomite lime to but they seem happy
coco u can actually use straight me personaly have put about 80% coco and 20% perlite thats it
no need for the lime as coco is pre buffered and u ph your feed well atleast i hope u checking the ph of your feed
i am using all cyco stuff have a look at my grow the link is in my sig
as for feed i have also just been going by the cyco feeding chart but like masterhemp i only use a+b and swell when its time
as for watering i assume you are hand watering theres a couple ways u can go about it i personally just stick my finger a few cms into the coco if its dry i water otherwise u could weigh ya pots dry then water and weigh again that will give you a weight range you can use to know when to water after a couple waters u should be able to tell just by picking the pot up

oh and gl with the grow man

I am more than keen to see how the colloidal silver works and I wish it would hurry up.
I have nearly convinced myself that the plant is about to grow balls, or maybe I have been staring at that one clone for so long I have gone delusional.
The two clones that hopefully will get the pollen look beautiful, getting frosty buds and smelling amazingly fruity.

With your growing medium, I would toss the potting mix and have it totally soilless - just need to balance your drainage and moisture retention.
I would leave out the vermiculite as the coco does the same job, well ... it does the job a bit better as it helps buffer the pH as well as hold moisture.
I suppose all you need is coco and perlite, which is exactly what odlaw uses -

Is there diff in potency between hydro and growing in soil, this year im doing both and alot of my friends are saying soil bush bud and its not potent its worth nothing etc. my belief was that dyro was faster but soil taste better and potency was determained from the strain. wat do u gys think?

also wats the go with the choppers? ive been doing alittle reading up on them, do they really have that flir camera that detects the signature of the actual plant? im only doing 9 so im thinking of grouping them in lots of 3 and spreading them out in my back yard.

i think quality depends more on strain and yes i think outdoor tastes heaps better as ya not loading it up with all the chemicals like hydro but given the same token hydro taste pretty good to if flushed properly
thats just my opinion though

Outdoor grown plants can get bashed around by the elements a fair bit so they may lose some trichomes and therefore some potency, but the strain really determines the potency.

Well grown outdoor plants can be equal to hydro in potency and far exceed hydro in yield - bog standard bush bud (where males pollute females with pollen) will produce crappy low potency buds that are full of seeds ... it is all about the grower.

Many police and chartered reconnaissance helicopters are used in N.S.W every year. Some asshole really doesn't want us smoking reefer.
Fuck it,thats the only thing im worried about 99% sure nobody will stumble onto my spot, its about a 3x3 area cleared in thick lantana, probly do 6-9 plants.

Surely it would be visible from the air?
