Autoflower Thread & Resource Guide

Hey so now I have another question: I put my three little girls in really small pots (1/4 gallon or so) so that they would stay small and just produce some seeds. However, now that I got all fems I was thinking maybe I should take that as a blessing and try to grow them to get as much bud as I can (the usual goal, right?). I know to get a decent yield with autoflowers, you're supposed to start them in big pots because the roots grow like crazy before they start to bush out - this is evidenced by the fact that I already have roots sticking out the bottom and the plants are still tiny. SO THE QUESTION: if I were to transplant to 3 gallon pots now, would I improve the size and yield of the plants? Or have they already been so stunted by being started and showing sex in small pots that it's not worth it? Anybody have experience with transplanting autos at this stage? Thanks for any advice!

Good question. I wondered this myself back in the day and decided to read up on it. From what I read it all boils down to C02 consumption.

A plant in the wild has more C02 available to it that it could ever use. Due to the need for ventilation, closet/cab/indoor grows provide the plants with far less C02. At about 85 degrees Fahrenheit, it gets much harder for plants to take in C02. Now if the C02 is abundant, this isnt much of an issue and may just slow the growth a little if anything.

However, indoors when the temps get over 85F or so, the plants are probably not taking in NEAR enough C02 and it will significantly stunt growth and possibly kill them if they dont stay well hydrated. I personally have had 90F temps and higher and my plants stayed alive, but they seemed to wilt even if they were not low on water. I also noticed that after a solid week of 90F temps, the buds had not grown at all, so I think it was sort of in a suspended state.

Ive seen guys that have C02 setups running with 90-95F temps and getting gorgeous buds. But with a ventilation system always pulling air out its hard for the plants to "breathe". Which is why most people that run C02 have it set to a schedule where the C02 only kicks on when the exhaust goes off. This, however, can lead to odor leaks if not done right.

Im no pro and this is all just based off of what Ive read, but it seems that most of the info has been pretty well proven.

Great Info, I've always pondered, never came across the answer.

SCG - I dont know a whole lot about that medium, hydro or the particular strain so its hard to say for sure. With most any strain, that small amount of growth in 20 days would normally be from over watering. You mentioned you are waiting a bit between waterings as you should, about how long would you say?

Have you checked any other logs out for that strain to see if its a slow starter? Sometimes after they begin to flower plants will stretch like mad crazy. I know my Diesel Ryders were full of hairs and/or balls at only 3in (7.6cm) then some of them shot up to 20 inches in 2 liter soda bottles.

They look nice & healthy, and if they keep showing more and more white hairs I would just ride it out and hope they shoot up soon.

Good luck man

the medium is just rockwool with clay balls around it to keep the light out and hold abit of moisture , it alls ph'd fine. the seedbank said it was a small plant 14 inches at the very most but fuck me dead this plant is small..it has like 8 leaves lol im hopeing your rite and it might just shoot up but if thats the case it has like a good 10 inches to grow in 5 weeks... , i appreciate the responce but its not overwatering the 3 in hydro cannot be overwaterd as there roots are sitting in oxcygenated water 24/7 and the 2 plants in soil i water about every 3 days and there pots are almost 1g. and both the plants in soil and hydro are pretty close in size. if these all turn out shit what do u think my chances are off getting some replacements sent back to me from the seedbank ?

Yeah dude, i've noticed that theres a big growth spurt around week 3 in 4 in most peoples cases, that is small, my easy ryders didn't show sex til damn near a month, but they weren't nearly as small as your variety. I'm sure they will be fine, it should make you feel better that they are all the same size i think.

Ahhh only 14 inches eh? Yeah I would say you are on track just fine. As Autolemonhead said, weeks 3 and 4 should be where the growth spurts start to come in. As healthy as they look, Id say theyre supposed to be that small right now, freakin wicked to see plants that small showing sex isnt it?

WHAT UP KB how ya been dude.

Hi Guys.

I am new here and just doing my first grow.... but its all gone wrong.

My plants have stretched as I had the wrong light :(

My question is ??? Will these plants survive and produce a yeild... I do not want to carry on if there is no point.... any ideas would be really appreciated ... thanks

Depends on how stretched they are. If you want to keep thing, first things first, put a fan on them if you dont have one. A fan will blow them around a bit and strengthen the stem.

If they are stretched real bad you can always use a stick or small dowel rod to put in line with the stem. Tie the stem to it in a few spots to keep it up right. Or you can scrog the plant by tying it to a screen so that the lower stem doesnt have to support all the weight.

I would say if its good genetics and its not too horribly stretched, try to save it for sure. Toss up some pics if you can, it would be easier to say for sure.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend a good picture hosting site as I do not use them. You have to have, I believe, 50 posts to be able to upload pictures.

But i have used photobucket in the past, just delete everything and swap it over here once you get 50 posts. Its probably not the best to use, maybe someone else knows of a better one to use??
