I haven't found one yet that doesn't taste like an auto. Harsh and oniony
I’ve never had that... but I’ve heard a lot of weird things autos do during Flower or even while there growing... but that’s just fucked up genetics. Or not to sure haha...I always have dank as taste and bud... that hasn’t been a problem for me yet. What line up of nutrients do you use?

Rite now I'm running full line of emerald harvest, minus sturdy stalk and root wizard. I ran 2 autos on that a couple years back. I have also run ff on them
I flush for 1 week minimum. Still, the flavor is there.

Got sour d both auto and photo in jars now, same breeder. You can def tell difference.

Some genetics don’t mesh well , but autos will use the same parental lines as photos. Ruderalis only brings in fast bloom characteristic , environmental traits ( Siberia , etc ) , etc.

It’s the long line work that has to be hashed out to make autos and consistent.
There are other breeders out there that have great autos , Dutch Passion , Sweet , Speed , Bomb .....

But basically the same as regular ........ it’s cannabis for crying out loud.
I would find it hard to believe anyone can look at 2 buds / nugs ready to grind and tell which might be an auto.

I can only speak to my experience so take this fo what its worth.

All auto weed is inferior. Taste, smell, you name it. I can taste that ruderalis gene immediately when I smoke it. It tasts like shit. If you ever had weed from organic soil, that was photoperiod, its hands down better to smoke.

Now, that don't mean its bad dope, just shifty taste. I grew some sour d and amnesia haze autos and they were fire ass weed but still had that rudy taste. Autos just don't have the terp power photos do.
I kinda had the same experience as you, I almost feel as if I could taste the ruderalis gene trying to push through everytime.

In my opinion autos don't taste like onion, but everything else isn't up to standard of photos. When I was growing autos, my buds were kind of airy and didn't smell as strong as the weed I remember smoking. I thought it was my lights or nutrients. Then I switched to photo and my photoperiod plants are DENSE and reek like a mfker, not to mention the potency and the bag appeal as well.

I like autos but there are only a handful of breeders that can produce good results consistently like mephisto. I had two horrible autos harvests, one is Hindu Kush Auto from Master Sensei Genetics which was complete trash, maybe like 5% thc max. The other was Wicked Pissah Seeds' Auto Sour Sheriff, fairly decent strength, but took 120 days and half of my tent to produce only 2 oz of buds. I'm done with autos.

I grew mostly mephistos and if I ever have to grow autos again (hope not), I'll stick with them because their consistency and quality is the closest to photos, but even going from mephisto's autos to photo would still be a step up in quality. And to the guys that said you can't identify autos and photo buds, yes you can. I can at least. I can scroll through hundreds of bud pics on Instagram and I can tell almost always correctly before reading description which one is autos and which is photo buds. Auto buds are airier, less trichs most of the time, more pistils and more leaves, and tend to produce oddly shaped buds.
