all though the people around you can have a big effect, alot of people are born with some sort of chemical inbalance, and it will react to differant medicines in differant ways.i have experienced first hand the effects of pot after a serious acid over load,it took years for pot to become a relaxant, and im talkin 15 years.i have witnessed alot of my buddies who were heavy players in the drug arena unable to smoke pot today because of the anxiety attacks it now gives them.
Ye i suppose some people are unbalanced and shouldn't mess with themselves in anyway at all,but for the most part these anxiety attacks are usually because they feel uncomfortable and insecure for whatever reason who knows,i do know that if the people your around are good most people wont exp paranoia or anxiety,i have seen what bully's do to people when they know they is stoned and they mess people right up,sometimes for life:blsmoke:

Weed isn't so good for depression because when you get high you think more about the problems you have and thus; makes you more depressed. But I have social anxiety and I know exactly what its like. And weed definitely helps me conquer it. As for the depression, you should think CONSTANT positive thoughts before and during toking so you enter a clear and peaceful state of mind.

you have social anxiety and weed helps things out?! shit man haha I already think everyone's glaring at me in general to begin with i never go blazed when im meeting new people. You think it relaxes you, but just play it out sober once you think you need to be high to be chill and outgoing, but you can surprise yourself, give it a try. Weed is the last thing for social anxiety just take a bunch of zoloft. The best and only time to smoke weed (i have trouble following this rule) is when there is really is nothing to do. Your unemployed or on vacation and its a sunny day, you can suffer from severe paranoia but youll have a great time smoking since your not thinking that day. I love weed like everyone on this forum but like with alcoholics we cant encourage people to smoke weed to drown out feelings (im not speaking for those on this forum who suffer physical pain and are prescribed mj). Pot makes us feel good, but leave the anxiety problems to the pharmaceutical businesses. If they start putting thc in their valium cause it works so be it, they know better than non professionals. There are nuances, but weed is weed, know what to expect in a high based on how your feeling, and you'll know whether its worth hitting or passing the joint.

Great thread. I also suffer from social anxiety and have tried the prescription meds in the past and hated them. Weed seems to be the best relief (in certain amounts). I find that it can go either way tho, smoke a little, and it can relieve the symptoms...smoke a lot, and it can make them worse.
About 12 years or so I smoked weed for one of the first times and a a crazy panic attack. Now I think it was attributed to hitting it hard. I'm talking about when a HHuge joint is passed around I would take the bigggest puff I could hold, and thats what got me fucked-up and I got slapped with a panic attack. Perhaps the lack of oxygen for a few seconds, plus those awesome cannibonoids is what did the trick. Today I happily smoking marihuana for about 2 or so years without much trouble. I have noticed that I can't hold it in my lungs for long or I will freik out! , so I just smoke it like I would a cigarette, you know slowly inhailing and so o n. I'm happy to report that smoking this way hasn't triggered a panic attack. I can still get high and smoke llots of weed, I just don't hold it in y lungs and I'm fine.

I find this really interesting. I have been smoking for 30 years now and I am just discovering this out now. It's funny because I've sometimes wondered why I have gotten freaked out on some weed but just thought it was me becoming paranoid. This makes a lot of sense and I would really like to know some more about this topic. I suffer from PSTD, bi-polar disorder and have social anxiety disorder as well. I have never really known the types of weed I have been smoking because I am always getting free seeds from friends BUT now that I know I can buy seeds I will be more selective in choosing strains.
I will certainly keep up with this thread.
Very interesting read.
Thanks nongreenthumb.
have a read through this, it should help you to understand what weeds are good and what weeds are bad.

bringing the thread back up cause i have some points to mention. first off perscription medicine doesn't always work with everyone. i've tried just about everything for anxiety and it doesn't help.

folk's that have had one too bad acid trips that can't smoke weed, i may be in that boat, but i still think a little THC atleast of the right strain really helps to calm the body and mind.

relaxation, meditation and lots of exercise really will help anyone with a anxiety disorder. atleast it has for me. but i still have to deal with it.

anyways, from my searching anything high in indica should work best, keep a body stone instead of a massive head stone that can lead to paranoia, etc.

rock on!

I have had the same problem. Indicas are good. Go with something that is not too strong. My biggest problem was getting to high to fast. You start to dissassociate from your situation and who you are smoking with. Northern Lights is a good choice. The most important thing is smoking with people you are comfortable with.

chilling and breathing and EXCERCISE are everything... Physical activity is the first and most important action anybody can TAKE..

if you are taking medication and YOU have not tried hard core excercise.. then you are doing your self a huge DISERVICE..

Yes! This is very true and the people that need exercise the most are the people who usually don't feel like even getting off the couch.

I would think that you would just need to go for the buds that give you an up and motivational high and not a heavy couch locking buzz if you suffer from anxiety.
Harvest them earlyish when only 1 3rd of the pistils are brown:blsmoke:
Fuck dude some people on here just don't know what the hell they're talking about. Sativas are bad for anxiety, they give u a mental high. They tend to cause panic attacks in anxiety-prone ppl. They make my mind start racing, as well as my heart. Indicas give you that narcotic, couch-lock type high. Which is very good for anxiety. Good choice on the Kush, that should do ya well. Also, Romulan is famous for its anti-anxiety properties.

Sorry just did a quick search, couldn't really find anything. It's out there, I just don't feel like looking too hard:mrgreen:. But, I do know it's a sativa/indica mix that is mostly indica.

If you harvest any weed that has many white pistils left you will get an up motivational high which does not cause anxiety because funnily enough its an up high,it wouldn't matter whether it was a sativa or an indica.
If you suffer from real anxiety attacks why would you want a debilitating couch lock that would only add to your anxiety because you are rendered incapable of defending yourself or fleeing the scene.
Sounds to me like your just plain old paranoid and you dont like the trip from a sativa:mrgreen:

Naw I love Sativas as much as the next guy. Just not in social situations, which is the cause of my anxiety.

I've been researching this for awhile as well as experimenting on myself.
Do the research for yourself if you don't believe me.

iblazethekush, i'm starting to wonder if it means less about sativa/indica as it does strands, because i also have some pretty major anxiety issues that are sometimes very controllable and other times not so much. but for the most part keeping to couch weed has really helped me.

the thing with anxiety is you don't always want to be in the mindset that you have to flee a scene. its the fact of trying to rid that feeling because 99% of the time it is not the case.
