Best open reflector?

my vote is for the OG HOOD by growlite! Use the glass or take it out and still get the benefits of the air cooled hoods without the loss of lumens due to the glass. JMO

The supersun II's are awesome hoods as well. They were one of the top hoods in the ICMAG AC hood test awhile back. They throw ALLOT of concentrated light. That said, they ARE a little narrow. I have 6 of them that I run 600's in. honestly I think for a 1k watt you would want to run a wider hood.
What we're concerned with is the dispersion relative to the light intensity. Forgive me for saying, in your case, a SSII is not really optimal for a 600 unlike Pico's assertions on IC. You can get higher yield over a wider area with a Blockbuster, everything staying equal. Why? Because, in order for the two hoods to disperse equally/evenly, the SSII needs to hang ~8" above a Blockbuster, hence lowering the intensity available to the plants. I noted the same on IC. Obviously, this constraint isn't really applicable to 1Ks.

The blockbuster seems to be the goto in terms of best performance.
In many rooms, yes. In an air-cooled setup with 600s or 1Ks few are better, at least that I've tested.

FWIW, I have a SS, several SSIIs, a number of Blockbusters, a slightly smaller number of CoolSuns, a few Daystar ACs, and a few other hoods I'm forgetting.

Simon. Nice to hear from you. So refresh my memory, are you a Blockbuster or Super Sun fan for 1000w? I though you recommended a Super Sun previously. Thanks.

Both are excellent reflectors, arguably the best available. I suggested a SS for your application, as you want to run a 1K without air-cooling. For a 600, I'd suggest a Blockbuster. The main drawback to the SS (and the SS II) is the height above the canopy needed to cover a given area with an equitable amount of light intensity. For example, if one is to run a SS with a 600 and have it hang ~10" above the canopy, the sides of the garden will receive significantly less light intensity; a Blockbuster dispeses a lot better at that height. Ask me how I know. OTOH, ~18" above the canopy and the SS has a distinct advantage. Hope that made sense.
