I took typing after high school at a secretarial school. I was the only guy in the class and I saw a future of possibilities unfold. Best $100 I ever spent.
I got a job in 11th grade doing maintenance at a large bank - my counselor found out and suggested I take business ed (which was mostly typing). It was a room full of pretty girls & me, I looked forward to that class daily. We used the old manual machines & instead of blacking out the keys the teacher would put the assignment on a screen & shut off the classroom lights. I took to it like a duck to water for some reason - corrected 85 wpm at my best (but that was on the new IBM Selectric's). Even in the dark I knew when I screwed up a letter & had the correct key memorized too & could fix it without missing a beat.

We had wood and metal shop. They would not allow females to take either. Instead it was home ec or typing. I took typing. Turned out to be a good choice.
When I was in grade 10 in 1974, they encouraged boys to enroll in Home Economics (but changed the name to Food Science) and encouraged girls to enroll in Shop (but changed the name to Industrial Arts).

1 girl enrolled in Industrial Arts and my buddy & I were the only boys to enroll in Home Economics. We received lots of teasing from the other boys until we informed them that the class was divided into groups of 4 and we were teamed up with 2 of the hottest girls in the school....plus we got to eat the food we prepared, as well as leftovers from the gals. :P

The next year several guys were enrolling in Home Economics.

BTW: the gal did just fine in the Industrial Arts class

Still worth the eye candy though...
I've had the idea for a TV show partly based on my life, bouncing around in my head for a long time now.

The opening scene would be a super sexy woman swimming in her pool with a pool boy standing poolside holding a towel. The woman would nonchalantly get out of the pool with the pool boy waiting for her. She would do that hair toss and then look at the pool boy and just start screaming and then the pool boy would start screaming and then the camera would pan up to the sky and the name of the show would be in the clouds.

AI could flesh that out for you!

We had wood shop. Metal shop all kinds of things.
i got screwed though. My freshman year was the first year smoking wasn’t allowed on campus. That sucked.
We had a lot of stuff too. Photography, wood shop, metal shop, and wood harvesting. There's pic in my brothers yearbook of him lighting a cig with a torch in metal shop class. He had his welding helmet up and they captioned it with "need a light" lol.

My class was the last one for the smoking area.
Things sure have changed since then.
