Dont know if anyone has ever seen this site befor but I think it's one of the best ones out there that I've seen. http://www.shamanshop.net/casing.htm
The bar on top will give grain prep, cake, spore, incubation etc. techs. It is the bomb.
I'm going to have to free up even more time now with my plants and mushy going at the same time.

On another note, has anyone tryed incubating with jars in a tub in another tub with water nd a fish tank heater?

Always like to to see a new spore site. I was dead set on ralphsters. Have you ever tried them before? if so how do they compare?

Haven't tried the new sit posted but I've gotta throw in my two cents on Ralphsters. From the one interaction I've had with him he was super quick. I sent my money, from Maryland on a Monday, and got my spores, in Colorado. On a Friday. I'm assuming the money got there Wednesday and he turned the spores around same day, great guy/business.

Hey I haven't ever used ralphsters before but I just got some spores in from spores101. I'm from canada and they have a shipping site here and in the US so that way I don't have to worry about any border trouble. (They have to declare what's inside if the package comes into canada).

I just inoculated my "wheat berries", a good subsitute for wild bird seed I hear. I'll let you guys know in a few days if I had success!

What strain are you growing? Some will produce sclerota (stones) in wheat and grass seeds.

Here it is:

I just made up 5 jars using the Fractional sterilization method. It'll be my first grow but I think I followed the proper procedure.
-soaked "wheat berries" for a night.
-filled my jars which have 2 self healing inoculation ports , and one vent (with washer creating air gap covered with sterile tape)
-added water to jars roughly 3/4 of the way to the top of the wheat.
-covered with lid and tin foil (to prevent further moisture loss and contams.)
-put into boiling pot (face cloth on bottom so jars won't break) and let bubble for 60 mins.
-Remove jars and let sit over night, Repeat once more.
Finally inoculating the jars after the 3rd boil to allow all uglies to be killed.
-Oven tek inoculation , after shower, no shirt. Clean as a whistle.Flamed needle to red. Wiped in sterile cloth.
-1cc in each jar divided into each port.
-Foil back on and into a "TiT" with fish tank heater.

Now to wait it out.

I got everything lined up for next week for mt set up but The only thing is I don't have much of an incubator. Just a plastic small bin I was going to throw it up in the top of my closet with a clean towel over it.

if its not too cold it would only make it take a little longer.

Re the above procedure, it needs a few wwashesh between the first stages, and I prefer to presure cook my rye outside of the jars, rinseing, drying and then presure cooking to sterilise in the jars.

still WBS is the easiest of the grains, proceduraly, just let it stand in boiled water for an hour, rinse spread on nnewspaper to dry outsides, fill jars and sterilise.

Im also Canadian I've had terrible luck with Spores101, heard of quite a few similar cases as well from friends and on other forums. The best Canadian spore site (in my opinion) is Spores Lab (not to be confused with Spore Lab)(note the S).

Also, RE colonization/spawn medium....try rye grain berries instead of wheat berries, because rye grain can hold more moisture (47% EMC) than any other grain (Wheat is ~35% EMC) and therefore will result in more mushroom yield (more water in the growing medium = more mushrooms)

Also, after typing this I realized this thread is 10 years old....still posting though as this info may be able to benefit some growers

I recommend getting a pressure cooker and cooking some popcorn in jars with plugged lids until they are soft and cooked through.
Let it cool down and innoculate, then once it is all one white mass break it up and use it to seed a large tub of pasteurized old horse manure and straw perlite and coir.

I'm figuring the guy who posted this question probably has a dead syringe, it having been ten years now.
