Breeding tent set up advice?

I want to do some seet runs next year for breeding stock down the line. I am going to do it in a separate room, but beyond the basics, i am curious if there's any special tips and tricks that one may not think of for a seed run.

I'm going to get a 4x4 or 5x5, throw in an AC infinity intake/outtake, and a cloth filter over the carbon filter to keep pollen from getting everywhere. I'll probably run them in dirt. Lights are TBD.

In addition, I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but as far as preservation goes, if I have a pack of 11 reg seeds that I want to make into a few hundred or thousand seeds, would I be better off making an outcross with something that is similar for hybrid vigor or just breed the pack with itself once to keep the gene pool linear while increasing the amount of seeds I can experiment with long term?

I personally like crosses for hybrid vigor unless theres a strain I really love and want more seeds of + the pheno hunt. I love the infinite possibilities of hybrid pheno hunts. Knowing you might have something noone else has smokes so much better :bigjoint:Good luck

Bro, go over to Overgrow forum and read posts by Budderton, ill try to find the thread but he has this really sick tried & true method of flowering plants and doing specific seed runs IN THE SAME SPACE, without outwardly pollinating everything

Lemme see if I can find the thread. ...

You can always outcross. My first run on regs is a full table open pollination of everyone so I preserve all their genetics to pick through at my leisure. With fems I usually choose three females to reverse and then run the rest open table too. I use a good strong fan to assist in the pollen circulation in the room/tent. Congratulations, I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I like your taste in genetics.

It's in here somewhere

Long story short, he isolates a plant to be pollinated in a shower, pollinates it, lets it sit for 12 hrs then hoses it down & puts it back with the rest of the unpollinated females

Thank you for the reading material!

I appreciate the advice and kind words, thank you!

I'm going to do some experiments with male indica and sativa flower times to see what my options are. My original plan, which will happen in a more well thought out manner, was a modern interpritation of the 90s. Female Chem D s1, NL2, NL5, SSH, Master Kush, and Princess 88 with a male Original Haze and a male purest indica, and either hand collect the pollen or have clones go straight into flower with some vegged out ladies to insure a decent mixture. I can see the shortcomings clear as day, but I will figure out how to make this happen in time.

In the meantime, I plan to make more Relic SSH, Pineapple Fields, and/or Super Pineapple Haze seeds to get myself started before treading deep waters.

Wouldn't it be "best" to reverse and self a desired pheno in order to best preserve it? Or are we just talking about preserving a line/strain in general?
Here's my thinking, keep in mind I'm basically retarded...

The best genetic expression isn't nessessarily the best genetic potential. Marijuana wants to out cross, self pollination is a usefull tool for a breeder, but a last ditch effort for survival to the plant. Also, if I were trying to get laid, and someone told me to go fuck myself and die, and I did, I think my kids would be pretty fucked up, even if they managed to achieve more than I did.

Taking 11 seeds and making 1000 isn't going to magically increase the potential, but it might give more expressions that will make for fun and unique breeding projects down the line, maybe even the "grail".

I have lofty dreams of growing the most potent weed I possibly can, and I want to create as much opportunity now for the resources I may have later, while having as much fun as possible along the way.

The "Grail" plant is the destination, I'm here for the journey. If I can freely share seeds I made with people I love and bring them joy, it would be selfish not to try at the very least.

I would say the answer to the question(as I interrupt it) is that the method to the process depends on the intention of the work.

If you are trying to make some “random” crosses to pheno hunt through and find new things. Then I would say open pollination with multiple genetic lines can produce all kinds of interesting special results.
If your intention is to preserve the specific seed line then I would not outcross the seed pack. Most seeds are only f1 or f2 so they havnt been heavily worked and should have plenty of vigor on their own. Even if you started with some very stable f7~8 I really doubt “lack of vigor” will be a major issue with your stable dank genetics. So I would open pollinate multiple males and females from that pack.

If the intention was to develop a dank new strain then I would grow out everything and then grow them all again and make selections based on real results. Then make specific crosses based on the characteristics I was looking for.
