Bubbleponics and DWC - The Future of Growing

How exactly did you "add more oxygen" ?
buy a high output air pump. you cant have too much oxygen in your water. ** it will also kill algae caused by high temps**

I had 31.2 Liters of air total, for 16.6 Lpm of air going through each res, with each res somewhere between 12 and 15 gallons... normally this would be fine, but because I have high temperatures in my grow space, and because I have a water pump constantly recirculating the water at the bottom of each reservoir, my water temperature is around 75 deg F. (residual heat from the pump)

Warmer temps cause algae

I then noticed some smells and algae during week 1 and 2, so I ordered two more 15 Lpm pumps, and some air rings with weights attached - pretty much doubling the amount of dissolved oxygen in each of my reservoirs.

most people have their water at 65, and try to keep it under and around 65 F. The cooler water is, the more oxygen it can hold.

I refuse to buy a water chiller for each res,. because they cost like 300 bucks for a bottom of the line model

So I pump massive amounts of air into my res - its solves problems. last grow my res temps got up to 80 F, but were mostly at 78 F (extremely warm) , I was amazed that my plants survived, but then again I was pumping 16 Lpm into a 5 gal res. (filled to 4gal)

Yeah, I got 3 88 litres per min pumps, running 24 plants so I have 8 on each. so around 10 lpms. You think I should buy 3 more 88 LPM pumps? I got slime like 2 months ago, and now it just came back. I keep my res temps under 70. Usually 65 when I check the water. I use 5 gallon buckets.

And I lowered my water levels awhile back appropriately so that the rockwool was not wet but wasn't dry either. They grow alot better now haha =D

You can determine how well it will work in summer by measuring now how high temps get under the light in your flower room, and compare that to ambient temps (out in the room). If the difference is, say, 10 degrees, then ask yourself if you can keep the temp in that room below 70 when it is however hot it gets outside in summer. I can do it with lots and lots of AC, but it isn't worth it so I never grow in summer.

If I decide to run this summer I have a portable AC unit that goes in the flower room. Not sure with an outdoor crop if we will run inside but it would be nice to Have a couple of Big plants in DWC going for a back up. I think between The portable AC, water cooler jugs and some frozen water bottles and some H202 I can conquer summer. LOL!

nice. i wouldnt buy anymore 3.88 lpm pumps, id buy one or two 15-20 lpm pumps.. most have at least 4 outlets - and air rings / stones are super important too, you want your oxygen dissolved..well.

-just finished reading your journal dude, they look a lot better.

I have some cal-mag issues that are going to be resolved soon, but otherwise they look good. I have been trying to go easy on the feeding and let these others catch up, but no more.

There comes a time in everyone's life, when ya just have to adopt the pirates code. I hope they can deal with the nutage thats about to happen.

Today I went from 420ppm-520ppm

There's about a 2 1/2 in spread between the shortest and tallest. Maybe a week before I put the screen up, and two before I flip - or thereabouts.

I have been thinking maybe I should lower the screen, [ its at 1ft ] , but I want huge colas, so I think I will continue to veg for another week or so.

The stretch on indicas is minimal I've heard, but I have never grown either of these strains.

They look much better since uppin the nutage - this morn I topped off with some water so tonight I will nute them again to 7 hundy. [ i like to ebb n flo my nutage ] hit em hard, then let them drink. Then hit them hard again.

I have also decided that I am going to have to do some serious trimming, so I need to look into that as these girls have been on a 24/0 veg cycle and are squat and fat.

I may have hit them too hard with the nutes... there are a few signs of burn and crisping.

There are some leaves on the younger plants that indicate over fertilization to the max, but surprisingly they seem to have handled it with minimal negative repercussions. I need to get a handle on it though.

They are only three inches away from the screen now.. so another week I guess, hopefully no more than that.

I am hoping to yield a pound, we will see. I also might change my reservoir out at the end of the week, before switching to flower. [ if these burns get any worse ]

I know I know, I said I wouldnt change it out at all, but I have to make this harvest count. I am still proud of how well my plants have handled themselves without a res change so far.

I grew from seed, this is my second grow ever, and I'm not really sure if I believe you - unless you took some big ass clones- but regardless it sounds like you're pretty hardcore.

You are obviously more experienced. However, I would bet that someone with a good amount of experience in hydroponics would be able to grow bigger plants faster, than someone growing the same plant in soil.

I can see that the plants in those pics are big, I just dont believe 40 days old. but congratulations, if they are yours.

why dont you go be hardcore somewhere else?

They look better. It is safe to conclude that without a reservoir change my plants would look like shit.

They are drinking lots of water now, and I am trying to decide if I want to top them or not.

Here is how they look so far.. looks like there is some bleaching going on, and some over-feeding, but I am trying to push em since there are only 2-3 weeks left.

1250 ppm
5.8pH
