bugs coming out my compost HELP

BUMP.................... can anyone tell me if these ingredients of mouth spray will kill the bugs that are underneath my compost............. ingredients .aqua.alcohol.glycerin.sorbitol aroma.peg-40. hydrogenated castor oil.sodium sachhan.sodium benzoate.citric acid.celylpyndinium chloride.citral.limonene...

Sounds like scariad flies aka fruit flies aka fungus gnats.


Depending on where you are in the world will depend on what product to use.

Any of these will work

Mosquito dunks
Spinosad
azamax
tobacco juice
perethrins
Predatory nematodes
diatamacious earth
hypoaspis miles

You should be able to get some of these from your local hydro store or even some department stores like Lowes might have them.

Sounds like gnats to me too.

If you want to stay organic, some people use a layer of sand on the top of the compost.
Others swear by powdered cinnamon. It's a natural fungicide, so the gnats starve.

i guess the mouth spray wouldnt work then if added with water ?kind of on a budget and wanted to maybe make something up to kill them but i heard peppermint oil is good to kill bugs but what other things do u suggest iapart from all them cos ive not heard any of them at all ?whats tobacco juice just the juice out of tobacco itself like ifu put a butt in water itll release the tobacco out of the ciggerette ? or am i thinkin too logic lol

Your logic is very correct.

Cigarettes stewed in water. Google will help with a recipe.


Garlic is also good.

A sweet cider vinegar in a bowl will draw them out and into the bowl.

Confirmed fungus gnats.


If you look closely through your soil/medium then you will find small translucent worms with black heads. These are the larvae that feed on your roots. The flies themselves do little to no damage but they can lay up to 300 eggs in its lifetime.

that is why i am going to coco and water farms inside, I spray,sand on top and the lil pricks are all over the place. sticky traps get changed out every few weeks. I had lady bugs but the flys must have chased them off...What a mess. good luck with the war as i am changing gear so I do not have to fight them anymore

strange sand should have worked for ya its worked well for me how much did you put on top ?

Believe it or not but coco is very attractive to fungus gnats.


Youneed to find out where they are getting in from.

Pets around your grows are usually over looked for bringing in pests with them.

All intakes should be screened.

You should not come in from outside and go straight into your room.



Trichoderma should be a good friend if you suffer with fungus gnats. The bacteria Trichoderma competes for the same food source as the fungus gnat larvae. Trichoderma Is often over looked as a pest control product.

Also the above mentioned predator nematodes would work



Sand is a messy solution to fungus gnats and quite often the gnats get back into your medium through the bottom drainage holes in your pots.

SAND IS QUITE CLEAN I FIND IMO BUT IF YOU HAVE FANS RUNNING ALSO SO A HURRICANE FORCE WIND TO THEM THE WONT GET NEAR THE POT HOLES BUT THE REAL ANSWER IS TO FIND IF THEY ARE COMING FROM ELSE WHERES OR ARE ALREADY IN THE SOIL YOUR BUYING TO USE

Diatomaceous Earth does wonders in your medium and compost pile...should be able to get it at a near by feed store.......

mine came from the soil, I got FF OF from hydro store that was not stored right. Seems like they hatch every two weeks aand the fight is on.Some of my pots do have drain holes in the bottem. I tried to flood the bottem of my pots and that was a big mistake as i had to drain the catch pan because it was full of em. Kinda limited on what I can use,but sand is a mess and they do get in from the sides when the sand starts to dry before getting watered again

if you have any pepper add about 2 spoons full to each bucket of dirt and then mix in in all around the pot, they hate pepper they will leave within a week

and as you water the pepper will saok in and it will stay in the soil so they wont come back i do this to my out door soil and never have any problems

wouldnt this make the buds taste like pepper after doing this?
