Can somebody explain this to me better?

so i was looking at the norml site and i came across these tax stamps and im not really sure of their purpose, it seems to me that its the way they get the fines out of you for possession.

Its a catch 22, you have to present the cannabis to them in order for it to be weighed, because they tax you by weight. Most people aren't going to take their cannabis to be weighed for fear of being busted. Additionally, the IRS can pop you for tax evasion if you get busted for "untaxed revenues."

but once you pay said tax...possession is legal? just nothing else?

I think it would probably be a way to get more cash out of the people they bust. Kinda the same principle as the stamp act; but the more you're busted with, the more the gov't makes.

i think the tax stamps were the first effective legal step in prohibition... dont think they actually mean anything today...

I wouldn't do it. The day I walk into a state building to weigh drugs so i can pay taxes is the day I need to be shot.

as i said, it was the first step of full blown prohibition... they made it cost too much to be worthwhile... back in 1937, you would be all legal; now you would be laughed at and arrested on spot im sure.... they are still sold as "novelties" though

Yep, some states never even printed them. But no, it would not be legal to have cannabis (with respect to federal law) if you in fact had a proper stamp.

i believe norml even explains them on their site... guess people get excited and stop reading.....
