Choppers in the day-time. plz help.

thermal equiptment cannot see through walls. it only works to show the external temp. it does not work in the day time as the sun affects it too much. At night, they can use it but only for the temp of your walls. they compare it to your neighbors. I have solved this problem by creating a room inside a room. Its just sealed with plastic and styrofoam. the outer room (which is 12 inches from the real wall all the way around) is cooled seperately from the flower room. This keeps my exterior walls cooler.

IR can detect during the day as the sun will make a certain heat signature then if you have lights in a cold house the scan will show a different heat signature but in the us they cant randomly scan your home without a warrant issued on prior probably cause so if your growing and they scan your house they already know and are just confirming for a ful house raid warrant. hope you feel better now (-=

gro you know that doesnt matter right as the new thermal imaging devices can see through 4 deet of concrete right? the only way to trick or decieve the stuff is to use a reflective material like heat duct insulation and use it and make sure no gaps. This will disperse the heat signature and it will look just like light heat refraction on the scan but isnt full proof.Alot of misinformation floating here. The scans work during the day fine they also can scan the outside land with no issue as marijuana has a much hotter heat signature then most common veg and shows up red hot on the camera sensors.

Wow thanks for all the replies everyone. So maybe I wasn't wrong for stopping? Is it normal to have a chopper fly right over my house 2 times a day really low? It was really nerve racking, but some people on here say the same thing is happening to them...so what's the best way to hide the heat? Room inside of room?....wait shhhh. here comes a chopper ha.

I don't know if it is normal or not - probably depends on where you live. In the city, I think you'll find helicopters buzzing around all the time and you've only noticed them cause you're worried about your grow.

Well I had a 1000w light and air cooled hood. The temps in the room were still around 85F. So I bought a small AC unit so I didn't have to run the houses AC. Thing is that the AC puts out cold air but exausts hot air. So I had the hot air out the window but then realized that the smell was coming through the AC as well! So I put the exaust back into the room but then the AC just canceled each other out with the cold air and hot air...so the room was still hot (w/ new hot spots) any idea how to fix this if I ever pick up again? I was thinking of putting the exaust into the roof but then I'm sure it would still smell all around the house.

its is normal to have a chopper fly over your house 2 times, maybe it went somewhere, and then came back.......it wasnt right over YOUR house. dont trip. how would they knw

ok i know a fair amount about ir equipment, it isnt like an x-ray that can see your light bulbs and cloning trays...but... it CAN see heat signatures through walls during the day. heat signatures doesn't depend on the external temp, it depends on the temp difference of two like objects. SOOO>>>> if you have 8 cfls or an hps, it WILL NOT be able to tell any usable info. BUT if you have 4+ 600W HPS AND 4 MH LIGHTS ALL RUNNING, IT can see the hot temp output through the walls OR exhaust.... exhaust is one the most widely seen things. they will get suspicious if they see a stream of 111.98f hot air running out of your house. also, it Is much harder to use during the day and they will most likely not bother using it (it costs money). and it is easier to detect heat through a house during winter

my understanding is you would need two layers of mylar with a space of air between them to shield from chopper coppers:)

Mylar wont stop ir imaging at all..Chopper flying over for me is normal as I live outside a major international city by the busiest airport in the world and I also have 3 hospitol within 5 miles of me all having choppers.It would depend on you and what is normal for your area

in regards to the AC unit, if you seal the unit completely there shouldnt be an issue, as AC is just a heat exchanger, and does not actually move air between in and out. I imagine you had positive pressure in your room which happens when your bringing in more air than you are pulling out. To keep the police from using any kind of thermal equiptment its best just to stay off the radar. they wont be looking at you if you dont have any neighbors or ex girlfriends tipping them off. Almost all busts are from informants of some kind. the only way to keep peace of mind is to keep your mouth shut. i know its hard but thats part of the reason i joined a forum - so i could share anonymously.

The infra-red waves are traveling through the air and really don't heat much until they hit something solid and begin to warm that up. If they hit a reflective surface, some will be redirected back towards the source and some will be absorbed by the reflector as heat. The better the reflector, the less that reflector heats up and the less with which the insulation behind it must contend- if there was no reflector at all- then 100% of the infrared energy would be heating the insulation and thus, increase the load on the insulation. Even in the man hiding in the dumpster scenario- the author points out that as long as the body (the radiating source) is not in contact with the metal (thus allowing for conductive as opposed to radiative transfer) the IR detector will not pick up on his heat. In that case- the metal dumpster wall is acting as the sole barrier between the IR source (the body) and the detector. Air does not block IR radiation-- its essentially transparent to it-- air blocks conductive transfer of heat. This is important in that if the radiant barrier does heat up enough to re-radiate any significant IR, then air alone will not prevent the IR from striking the next surface in line between the source and the detector. However, provided that the radiant barrier is prevented from reaching temperatures significantly above ambient temperatures outside the room either by its effectiveness as a reflector versus absorber, or by continuously cooling it and controlling the destination of that collected heat, or a combination, then re-radiation will be close to the background ambient IR radiation and thus insignificant.

in addition to blocking conductive transfer of heat from within a room, insulation directly exposed to an IR radiative source without a reflective barrier is also serving the same function as the metal reflector... some, but not much, of the IR is reflected off the insulating material, and the rest is heating the insulation itself which is poor at conductive transfer. No matter the quality or material of the reflecting layer and its thermal conductive properties- as long as it is preventing some of the IR emitted from the source from ever reaching the insulation, it is beneficial and assists in the effectiveness of the insulation. It allows less insulation to be used than would be required without a reflective surface to achieve the same thermal barrier.

Hey groprofosho, I don't really understand about ur AC thoughts...what do you mean seal the unit completely? I tried putting the exaust into cold water but the pressure wasn't enough so the unit started pushing out warm air instead of cold...any other suggestions or clear this up?

You need to just exhaust your hot air within the house, put away that portable AC & use your central air to cool the entire house.
Most likely you should try an exhaust to where the central AC's thermostat is at. :hump:

Lots of growers are using the closed grow room environment method to be more stealth. Oh & if your going to exhaust within the house you should invest a carbon scrubber. :peace:

I would say the obvious decision is dont worry about it, or dont grow...i dont understand why your that paranoid (unless your involved with something else thats going on with a bigger scale ;) )
