OK, I just spent an hour trimming and fussin around obsessively with my plants, so apparently it may be a disease or something.

that one does seem to be looking like a male, but I'd also give it another week. usually by week 5/6 of life, you can tell @ the 4th internode, no later than wk7/8.

Thanks again EC, much obliged. Lights set at 10" and that leaves me 18" that I can go up till I run out of head room. You know, I never would have guessed how sensitive cannabis is to the moisture level of the soil. Yesterday the plants were vibrant and perked up, today drooped out. I think about 2 gallons ran through the Blumats last night and today. My fault, just can help myself from fiddling with shit and I had turned them up a couple of days ago thinking they needed more water. It took 36 hours for it to swing from a little on the dry side to sopping wet. Getting dialed in now though.

Do you all think this is a male pre flower?
Your plants look really nice , have you tried any DWC growing ? The male or female question is interesting , it is a shame that the plant has to get that big before you can tell , will you process that plant in any way ? I seen a post where a guy was in the same situation and he said he just smoked it early , does that sound reasonable ?

I wonder how the auto-water grow boxes work compared to the drip systems ?

I bought one of the grow boxes ( factory made ) and know they work good , also have built DWC Bubbler unit and know it also works good , question is which system will grow the best MM plants and which one is the least labor intensive . My plan is to build both units and do a side by side grow and then go with one or the other , has anyone done a side by side and seen the results ?

By the way , when I say the systems work I’m talking Vegies , I have never grown marijuana and am dumb as to which is best , I have no actual hands on knowledge in MM other than I smoked some 53 years ago ( remember it as being a cool experience ) , I became interested in it because of my health problems and my wife's battle with cancer , anything you guys can help me with will be appreciated . I’m going to start a thread on my theory of MM and hopefully I can tap into your vast knowledge . Most of the information I can find is based on either smoking it or vaporizing it , but not enough on growing it for health reasons ( I plan to go for all three ) .

No, this is my first grow - just soil.

If you mean will I process the plant if it is a male, then answer is no. It will get pitched as I'm not up to trying to collect pollen... crawl before you walk.

Dunno, sorry.

Can't answer that as I don't have enough experience to know, sorry.

ummmmm..... I think that you must be addressing eyecandi or Chef or just about anyone but me bro, I'm a noob for Pete's sake lol

Sorry about that , just went back and read the first part of your thread , didn’t realize you just started , nice cabinet , makes me feel confident that I can do that , especially seeing how good your doing .

soil is by far the easiest to start with, it's what nature intended and produces the highest quality, full range turpine profile. hydro can be finicky and noods who try it and fail get discouraged from any further growing quickly. it is also much more forgiving to mistakes. IMO, start with soil to get your feet wet, so you don't waste a ton of time/energy before reaching your initial goal of learning the plant a little.

I took clones of SN1(likely female), SN2 (female) & SN3(female). SN4 (likely male) did not get cloned and is going to a new home. Gotta say, I'd been expecting the clone taking process to be difficult, but it was pretty easy actually. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself and they'll root.

cloning isn't hard, it's mostly trial and error dialing in the clone box, it's mostly about keeping the right environment steady (lights, humidity and temps) and lessening the chances of mold/mildew until roots take hold and you can xplant them. tip: LOW ambient light for the first several days->week, this helps them focus on attempting to grow roots instead of processing light, then introduce higher light levels.

Eyecandi - What are your thoughts on cloning in soil or even in straight water?

Thanks sir. Unfortunately, it's all or nothing in my clone box. There is one 2' HO bulb in there... Either it's on or off, otherwise I would need to put them somewhere else.. I don't have anywhere else at the moment. Should I put them in the dark some? I have lights going 24/7 and the temp is staying at 80. There is some air flow or I wouldn't be ale to keep the temps under 80.

2-11-2013 cloner.jpgThis cloner has grown roots on 100% of the cuttings that I put into it. I use clean water with a little Clonex, no nutes or any distractions. The higher temps could get weird as something evil might grow in the water, if you are going to have hot water you should plan on cycling it out every few days with nice cold Colorado tap water. I used the cloner described by StinkBud, sprayers cycle 1 minute on, 4-5 minutes off, lights are on 20 hours, same timer as the veg units. I am enjoying the hydro, feels very 'scientific' and the growth rate is great.

420- I've done both with success. play around, worse case scenario ... they die and you take another cut ;)

bubba - you can use a piece of plain white copy paper to cover the light for a couple days (lay it on top of the clone dome, or tape it across like a shield), this diffuses the bright bulb enough

Thanks ec. I love practical solutions. Here's some pics. The cutting in the top left was taken yesterday, the others on Saturday. They seem droopy but still alive I think. I will pull the light shade off tomorrow. The cab is dialed in. Collectively sucking down about a gallon of H2O a day. I've decided to proceed au naturel for my first grow, so hopefully I don't outgrow the headroom in the cab...

looking real good bro! clones look healthy, I see you cut the tips off (a good thing, most noobs miss this). the girls in the cab look happy too, looks like the vertical growth is starting to take off (which means the roots are happy and well into establishing themselves in the bigger pots). I'm forseeing a lot of frosty goodness coming your way .......

Well the cab is dialed in, but my god does it suck down the water. I ran 5 gallons up to the res on Sunday night and had to run another 5 gallons up this morning. At that rate, I'm going through 3 gallons or so a day, & they're just going to need more as they flower.... I guess I'm going to have to pull the trigger on plumbing in an RO/DI with a float valve in the res. RO/DI water is only .$25/gallon at Vitamin Cottage, but its just too much lugging and I don't want to be pumping 5 gallons to the res every day...

I'm about ready to chop the suspected male plant.. Looked even more suspect this morning. I took a clone, so I won't be losing anything. That will save me some on the water...

You have not even remotely let it go to long, it will have groups of balls in several areas before any open up and spread pollen. I do see what you mean, but one young tiny node like that can't produce much pollen if any.
You worry to much about the boys, its just a little pollen. :-D Girls don't even look very receptive to pollen yet, are you in flower yet i forget.....
I started off with an RO system, 0 ppm, and fought deficiencies more than i do now using tap water that i fill a 55 gallon drum and let sit to get rid of the Chlorine. If you are on a city water source and not a well it may be worth it to just use tap water, many of us have great success with it.
I always have much better luck with clones and seedlings if i keep them covered with a dome, lid or even a baggie.
Everything looks awesome!
