City water

Anyone have to hit Rez with H2O2 to kill bacteria from initial fill up? If I add bennies water turns cloudy and algae starts to build slowly. If I hit Rez with the H2O2 first everything good and I can add bennies 24hr later, but have to do this every time because I don’t use R/O I guess and water lines must be old lol. 88 cents a quart for hydrogen peroxide, can’t go wrong. I just started DWC.

I scrub my res's with dawn every week. I guess I run a pretty sterile environment, my water stays crystal clear, no film on the surface, no funky smell. It may have a tinge of color from the nutes but not cloudy in the least. Now I also rinse like it is an oil spill survivor, so, no residue. Now the big difference I'm sure, I don't use tap water. I save rainwater (pisses the wife off) so I don't have to worry about additives.
The 24 hour time frame is interesting. I wonder if it is a chlorine reaction? Chlorine is volatile, thus it aerosolizes at "room temperature" and takes about 24 hours to aerosolized itself naturally. Chlorine can also be removed by boiling for water for 20 minutes. Just an idea give your water a good boil and cool before your next solution change. Might help might not.

Thanks for the reply. Took me one bad run to figure recipe out lol. I’m cheap skate and keep it basic. I wait the 24hr. Just to be safe. Will probably get R/O soon enough and a water chiller. If water isn’t treated the cloudy smelly bloom just gets worse and worse or if treated later might not beat it and you’ll have issues. I have to hit the water with H2O2 right away. I need about 250ml for my 30gallons of water. Sometimes I just shoot 50ml in there for fun now and to be on safe side. Probably kills any Bennie I’ve put in but oh well lol. I’ve ordered recharge and am going to try it next Rez change.

No idea what bennies you are using.. but for 2 years i only use tap water (110pm 7ph) and southern AG.. white roots and no h202 or anything like that needed.
P.S. i have stopped even cleaning or swapping out water for the full grow (i do 5 gal buckets) I just top up with new water when they hit bout half empty. Southern AG is key :)

everyones water is different though.. i'm just glad mine is good.

that’s cool and have seen a few talking about southern AG. I was using only hydroguard, but will try Recharge soon. Already ordered recharge on amazon or I’d try the southern AG first. Sourthern AG is cheaper and will def try that after. What specifically do you use (hydroponic special)? I see a lot from Southern AG. Also, the amount of dog hair that gets into my tent is pretty bad and my gardening hose is going to get a carbon filter as well as a chlorine and chloramines filter (which are dirt cheap) lol. Hoping that will help a lot, but who can trust that. Thanks for the shout out.

If you're running dwc, don't simply add Recharge to your reservoir. I did once and it never dissolves and mucks up airstones. They say you can pour some in netcup at res change. It's a fine product, I use it regularly, just not for reservoirs. Southern AG GFF has worked well for me; economical too.

This... and no idea why you would want to filter chloromine.. it doesn't hurt a thing. i can even smell it in my water and the plants have zero issues with it.. no reason to make life harder :)

P.S. isn't recharge for soil just to give bennies something to eat? seems a waste of money...

Recharge is myco, beneficial bacteria, and some of molasses and kelp for food. Its designed to be used with a growing medium. Its good stuff but not for dwc.

Awesome! Thanks for the help. Going to return the recharge lol. I’ll def try the southern AG fungicide. I read somewhere that chloramines can be bad for some nutrients or cause issues in DWC. I don’t think that was my Problem. I think it was and is bacteria in the line or something that reacts with the hydroguard. As of right now, am using GH flora series simple plan. I was using lotus pro series, but stopped because they were out of stock. Ill Be trying those nutes next grow forsure.

Although I can't definitively prove chloramine was my issue but I had wild PH swings when using my tap water. 140ish ppm, 7ph.

When I switched to RO, ph swings immediately stopped. To each thy own.

Yes, your h202 is killing your beneficials. Hydroguard only good for 6 months once opened which is irritating. I'll be switching to southern AG next.

6stage ispring is on sale right now i think for 165 on amazon. I paid 199. Works awesome.

Thanks Mike. Our water is close but my ph is higher. I’m about 145ppm and 8 ph. I don’t even know if I have anything bad in the water. I looked at water report and don’t really remember. I do remember chlorine lol. Just doing process of elimination. Will try cheap filters before I go big. Everything is great now that I don’t add hydroguard. Just seems like they were fueling a fire because of something in tap water or just out of date. Either way what I’m doing is very very cheap and I haven’t changed water in two weeks just keep adding water and nutes. Will do Rez change after 3 nute adds (according to GH instructions). I ordered like 3 gallon of hydrogen peroxide in quarts from Wally World haha! I’ve only used 300ml of it so far. I returned the partial hydroguard and cancelled my recharge order. I was getting so sick of Rez changes I might not add bennies for a little while haha.
