Hello, this is my first grow and consequently my first cloning run. So far it's been 5 days and no roots yet. I know that it's just a matter of waiting but that's not what I'm entirely concerned about..I looked in the flood tray below the clones this morning and it pretty much bone dry. The rapid rooter cubes were/are still sobbing wet but I'm concerned I let them get too dry...any help would be appreciated. I can post pics of the clones if anyone wants to look at health just haven't taken any as of yet..so far out of 12 only 1 is still droopy.

if the humidity is high (80% or near that) they should manage. Do you have them under a humidty "dome" of some sort? My tray is fairly dry and my grodan cubes are wet -- so I guess we'll both find out together on that one! I took clippings on the 3rd and just put my grodan cubes into soil two days ago. I still have some in the cubes under the dome though. The bottom leaves yellowed but the tops are okay - i've read this is typical.

Hmm don't know how high the humidity is in their right, I know it's about 80* ATM and there's a TON of condensation in their..but to answer your other question yes I have them in a heat dome with the rapid rooter plug tray and a heating mat underneath..also a I open them open a few times a day to make sure they're getting enough fresh air. Thanks for heads up about how long it's gonna take too root...I suppose I won't freak out about it anymore for a little while anyway.

Cloning can be very nerve wracking time especially for newer growers or even like myself when you have one plant that you want to keep going and only have one clone in the tray. I hear on these forums all the time about roots in a matter of 4 to 5 days, but I feel that most cuttings take longer than this. I would venture to say that most cuttings root in the 10 range rather than the 5 day range with many strains and flowering cuttings taking even longer. Yesterday I just finally got roots on a cutting that had been sitting in the tray for 4 weeks, this is much longer than is usual. I was like yourself in that by the end of the second week I was so nervous that I wasn't going to have my clone, but given the right conditions and enough time almost all cuttings will root in their own time.

get a cheap indoor outdoor thermometer for like ten bucks that shows humidy too. and put it in under the dome with the outdoor temp probe in a empty rapid rooter. make sure the probe is all the way down in the rapid rooter. this way you can have the air temp under the dome and humidy and medium temp also. move the light closer or further the make the air temp 75-80 and with the heating pad you should be able to get the medium to 80-85. keep the humidy around 90-100 only for a few days than lower slowly each day. after five to ten days humidy should be down to 50-60. keeping the humidy to high to to long will not promote root growth. the plants need to dry somewhat and the rapid rooters get much lighter in color so its easy to see when they dry. water once or twice a day by putting a half inch of water in the tray for a couple mins than empty the tray of water. water does not need to lay in the bottom of the tray. bad stuff can grow. keeping the humidy high the medium won't dry out to quick. rapid rooters like to be watered like soil. i like to remove my dome after five to seven days. if the clones start to wilt at all just put it back on for a few days. temps are most important for cloning than moisture than light. normally i think there are enough nutes in the rooting gell. i do water the rapid rooters once the first time with a b-1 nute mix. under 0.2ec

roots in 4 to 5 days isn't impossible in fact with the right techniques it can be almost a garuntee. BUT using rapid rooters or some sort of cube type rooting medium this is nearly impossible. the range for rooting clones this way is more like 10 day minimum.

but if your intrestes in having roots in 4 to 5 days ( and not roots just starting to come out but roots an inch to 2 inches long) you need to be using some sort of power cloner. Now im not saying that you have to go out and by a 300 plus dollar cloning machine, although if you have the money this is probably the easiet method. if your ballin on a budget like me you can make one for anywhere from 40 - 100 bucks depending on how big you want it.

but back to my point. usiing a tray and humidity dome and rooting cubes, plugs, etc is the slow method of cloning. while there isn't anything wrong with doing it that way, its not the most effecient. but good luck to you all. although it sounds like your doing just fine. patients is the number one virtue when cloning. im the same way. i pop open my cloner once a day atleast just to see if roots have popped yet even though i know i put them in the cloner the day before lol. I know how hard it can be to just sit back and let em do thier job

dont be fitering about with the stem m8 incase you pull the clone out of its medium lol ive done that a few times.
normally with clones its more like 10 days to even 3 weeks for some to root but they ALL do eventually root for me.
its easy

thanks for all the help everyone...SR. Greensea I will try to get that thermometer/hydrometer soon

@ thami...yea I've been rolling the idea around in my head re: a clone machine..would love your blueprints since I"m "rolling on a budget too"

Again thanks all..

I clone everyday and this is a great way to do it, although I leave the domes off after about 3 days. It just depends on how long it takes for them not to wilt with the domes off. You really need to get that thermometer and check the temps. 80 is too hot for rockwool but perfect for rapid rooter plugs. I get roots in 5-6 days with certain strains but some can take as long as 10. If the moms arent in great condition it could take longer. Try feeding your moms like 6 hours before cloning, this helps sometimes

Don't sweat it. I have found that letting the RR lose a significant amount of their moisture, not dry but not soaking, actually helps. I have had some stem rot and they fail to root when they are too wet.

Hmmm...well right now I have a dual Indoor/outdoor thermometer...the "indoor" part is in my flowering room with the humidity (at 30% right now) and the "outdoor" part is in the dome....I can't measure the two humidity's unfortunately so I will need to get something probably after this week. But I think I'll take the dome off today and stick the "outdoor" part in the medium.

you dont want it sobbing wet all the time it can create stem rot but you alway want it moist some strains are hard to clone and 5 days is pretty much a very fast clone i clone thousands a year and most of them take 9-14 days only certain cuts from the plants very bottom like to root in 5 days and its not consistant

It is a nerve racking process
Damn right it is man, I have terrible cloning skills =( I always peep these threads and try to soak up info on it. It's an art that takes alot of time and practice. People who say "oh it's nothing just cut and stick" obviously have probably never cloned before, lol =)

if you suck at cloning
just get an ez-cloner or make a replica for less than 100$

you can litteraly cut a branch off stick it in the neoprene add warm tap water(65-70degrees) and your done you will still get atleast 70% as long as the water temp stays good

like i stated b4 "we use home made ez-cloners filtered water vitamin b1 and poweder hormones"
and do a little leaf trimming and 45 angle cuts(not under running water) and i get 90% sucsess

just follow the rules. Air, Water, Light
Air temp+ 75-78degrees (the distance of the light will make it right) keep humidy elevated 80-90% for 3-5days with a dome. if u can 90% first 2days than drop 5%aday thereafter
Water (medium)+ 80-83degrees for rapid rooter, keep the medium moist, not drenched, if the medium is kept to wet, roots have no reason to grow
Light+ enough to keep the air at 75-78
use a gel or rooting powder and, soak the plugs with a mild b-1 nute for the first watering, than just keep moist with plain water.
if you are using a healthy mother you should have almost 100% success

the only thing thats not self eplanitory is the net pot i cut down to fit the neoprene into the 2 inch hole in the top of the rubbermaid

great posts everyone..out of the 12 which were cloned last sunday, I think I've only lost 1 clone...not bad for a newb...but I'm going to take all this info..hopefully cloning will get easier with time.
