Lol.

The t5 was used to sprout the outdoor plants. The UV bulb also eliminates the need for hardening off if planted earlier in the grow season. Not sure if it would do the same in the harsh summer sun.

i use uv before they sprout...they go all trichome'y ? in a day or 2
i use a lot of uv...24/7, had 2 @250w mercury vapor mainly but got some U.V.a leds when one went, less watt's= better for the eyes, don't seem as good for the tric making but its a different wavelength than m.v.

Anything 400W or larger, there's no reason not to use HPS, and for anything smaller, it's probably worth investing in cob lighting.

With the prices of cobs as low as they are, T5 is obsolete. You're all just throwing away money. Don't shoot the messenger.

Even the best grower on this forum, doublejj, should really be looking into slowly phasing out his veg T5 with cobs. It's particularly good value because they're left on for 18 to 24 hours per day vs only 12. I don't want to give him advice because he's obviously an expert grower (way better than me), but he could save a lot of money even with todays prices. LED's are still expensive, but T5 is also expensive. The price points are closer than most people think (per par watt). T5 $/PARW is expensive.

I understand that. You get the most value out of a high efficiency veg lamp because it's on for more hours of the day, making it a better investment than a flowering lamp. The amortization time is a lot lower.

Veg is the low hanging fruit, and doublejj would actually see more benefit from cobs than anyone else on this forum (because his lighting is only for veg).

I use t5's because they are cheap & easy to get & give good wide coverage & I only use them for vegging small plants. They work well for what I use them for.

T5 is definitely easier, but I think you're overestimating the price of cobs. T5s at this point are actually starting to look expensive in comparison to cobs these days, and as prices keep coming down, it's becoming more and more obvious and I think will soon become a no-brainer. (once people get over the cultural shift).

A 50% efficient LED lamp vs the 25% of T5HO means double the amount of light produced per watt, and if the $/radiated watt for both setups are equal, the 25% efficient option actually seems like a big ripoff. You're paying the same amount for the light, but one is twice as efficient.

I'd keep it on the radar, but I understand your "not broken, don't fix it" attitude toward t5. The fact that your lamps are only for veg makes it an even better investment. (why i brought you up in the first place). Upgrading veg lamps is a better value than upgrading flowering lamps because of how long they stay on per day.

So.

Care to put your bud up against my t5 bud? Church haze wouldn't. He did send me pics but wasn't willing to post them publicly.

I was among the first to embrace T5s using various spectrum tubes from the aquarium industry. I grew with them for > 6 complete grows. See the thread LED Grow Without LEDs. I don't keep 4 year old pics, BUT, if the thread is still in the archives, you can see pics from veg to harvest

vegging for more hours can cause problems when introducing outside, you apparently don't grow outside. I've had some plants begin flower going from 18 hrs inside to 15 hrs outside then reveg which is no good. Now I start the outdoor at 16/8. Even indoor that's my veg cycle. I read here before that high light cycles like 20/4 and 24/0 are of no added benefit because the plants need a sleep cycle and can only efficiently absorb so much light per day, and will still sleep whether the lights are on or off

YOU READ BULLSHIT!

and will still sleep whether the lights are on or off
Credibility destroyed.
