CMH, QB, or keep my HPS.

I’m running a 1k DE and a 600 SE right now in a 6x6, I can’t see how I can improve going to LED, seeing led grows, next run I’m going to add in 4 48” t5 uv tubes, cycle them and see what happens. I subbed the 600 for MH about week 6-7ish and running currently finishing up week 9.

I don't think an open 315cmh will yield as well as an air cooled 600 hps. I think 2 of the 315 cmh will out yield the 600 hps and be better quality. I have only run air cooled 600 watt hps, but I must say they aren't my favorite lights even though I ran em for years. 1000 watt hps single ended or double ended in an open reflector can't be beat for penetration and ease of getting large yields per sq ft.

If you have a small space though the cmh is super user friendly, relatively low heat, a bit better quality. But you do have to adjust your growing style to maximize yield. You need to use a trellis and spread the tops out and even, and then you only leave about 1.5 ft of canopy, maybe a bit more depending on watts per sq ft. The CMH spectrum produces my favorite bud as far as looks, terps, and frost. I don't think you can yield as much per sq ft as with a se 1k hps in an open reflector, but you can definitely yield as much per watt it just takes more sq ft. The DE HPS 1k is hard to match as it covers a bigger area and yields better than the SE 1k HPS, but can't be run in a small spot. That's why I recommend cmh to most guys I know that are setting up small personal grows. I have limited experience with LEDs though.
What do you think of a pair of HLG 260's and a 315 in a 4 x 4 tent would do? Thinking about trying it out when I start my next grow.. Grow would likely be fall winter so heat is a plus but afraid it might be to much heat and possibly to much light for a 4 x 4

Love trying new ideas.

I’m currently running 2 gavita 1650ml’s between 8 315’s, 4 on each side. I just learned a valuable lesson when I ran out of overhead room this time and was forced to have the plant canopy within 6 inches of the led and about 8-16 inches from the cmh. I obviously had bleaching and some damage to highest mains, but the proof was in the pudding. Final bagged out the door was about 7650 grams from from 3780 watts. just over 2 grams a watt. Don’t buy into the bs that cmh or led doesn’t produce, its all in the learning how to work what you’re working with. Cheers!

Stick with the tried and trusted HPS.

LEDs can't heat a room in winter like HPS and I need heat in winter months.

600watt HPS Sylvania Growlux 2050k is a great product with a Parabolic Reflector to Cover the whole grow area. Perfect

If you have cold winters HPS is your friend and LEDs can't do that so you'll spend a packet on good LEDs then spend even more for heating... Counter productive in every way.

Good old HPS

Good old HPS is good old HPS, but if you dont grow outside, why does it matter much if its summer or winter? I mean if you grow inside of your house, do you keep all the windows open in your grow room in the winter or what? I know some might be able to pull out air from outside or they grow in some cold garage, but i think most people with tents grow inside. My indoor temps are almost the same, it doesent matter if its -25C or +25C. Sure i could open all my windows in my apartment and make it really cold inside, but who would like to live that way? xD Sure if its an extra hot day in the summer, the tent temperatures might go up 2 or 3 degrees(using HPS), so LED would be better in some extra hot days. But the heat from HPS does nothing more than dry up the air in my flowering tent really, which means good humidity in the summer and waaaaay too low humidity in the winter without using a humifier. On my veg tent i have a LED and that doesent dry up the tent as much, so its good for that. Especially since i dont have as strong air removal from it, it keeps the warmth and moisture in there well.

im not against HPS and use one myself, im just pointing out that the heat from HPS does not help most people winter, unless you try to grow in some cold spaces like garage or put your tent outside in the snow.

My HPS help me massively in winter because I grow in tent in an out house.

Otherwise I can't grow in winter in the same place with LED because they are no good in my situation.

Besides, they are overpriced for a good rig and I am more than satisfied with what's in my jars from my trusty proven HPS

Yea, but my point was that not most grow in some non heated outhouses. Therefore saying that HPS is good for winter because it warms things up does not apply to most, but only on minority. Therefore its pointless thing to throw out, unless you also mention that it requires special set up for it to be useful, because it is not true that HPS helps most in the winter, because most dont grow in some unheated shed. It can help some, but for most the heat is only a problem that needs to be sorted with cooltubes etc. summer or winter

HPS is good for different reasons and the heat can be a good thing or a very bad thing. Personally i think its manageable thing that i dont find to be useful, but i can get rid of the heat enough for not have to use LEDs instead. And yes LEDs are way overpriced compared to HPS, not to mention that HPS tends to fatten up the buds better than LEDs. But LEDs also have their advantages naturally, like not heating as much. If i were to use something else than LED in my veg tent, i would have to get a whole new inline fan etc to handle the heat. Currently i can just make my veg tent vent to flowering tent, as i dont need such high airflow in veg tent. Its enough to keep smells at bay and keeps the heat and moisture to pretty optimal without having to do anything more

I used a combo of cheaper China made led panels and a 315 CMH in a 4 x 4 tent and couldn't of been happier. I still find it hard to believe the energy that people waste trying to disprove each other's way of growing . Isn't it enough to grow and be happy you can??

So I am in the minority (according to your secret poll of all growers) and have been for decades so I know exactly what I'm talking about and LED is shit in my situation.

HPS helps me massively being in the minority growing in an unheated outhouse.

Each to their own and I am more than pleased with my trusty proven HPS.

I don't suck eggs, too old for that and I'll stick with what is perfect for me from decades of growing

If you can't see my reasoning I cant be arsed to point it out.

The key with HPS is good extraction and air flow in the summer months but I have that sorted so HPS is the best for me

What the fuck are you blabbering about? I told you that HPS is better for your type of situation and in many situations. I repeated your reasoning if you did not notice and told you why it doesent apply to everyone, but just a minority part of growers. Is it too hard for you to believe that most people dont have some shed that sits outside unheated while the weather goes too low? Sure i did not make any polling about it, where the heck did you get the idea that most people or even large part of people grow outside in the cold winter?

You said about minorties so I am. One of them.

Anyway, I'm too busy to suck eggs.

Have a good day and less of the swearing at strangers.

Did you not get taught manners.

I'm a minority and very happy so back off with your foul mouth boy.
