Have kept gnats under control with sand and gravel covering soil in clay pots,Have an air pot now but haven't used.Question is:are the holes in the sides an opening for Fungus Gnats?

Yes. Use mosquito dunk bits in the water. its a bacteria that attacks the larvae.

Thats why I stopped using air pots, the fucking things are like a hotel for gnats. They can go in and out of the holes, back to smart pots ( fabric containers).. Air pots are cool and all I might use them again but only when starting from seed. Gnats were a motherfucker to deal with in air pots.. just my opinion.

May sound obvious but those little sticky fly-strips are handy for gnats. I know you can massacre fruit flies with vingar and sugar (or something simillar) as they are attracted to it and fall in.

Would wrapping the aero pot in a leg off a pair of tights maybe stop the insects from getting through?

This idea works well. The sticky traps work well to catch the adults flying but by that time there will be juvenile gnats and gnat larvae deep in your soil. You have to do a drench with a chemical like Azamx, gnatrol , neem oil etc..( The mosquito dunks everyone talks about are the same chemical in Gnatrol) .. Or you can go organic and use lady bugs or predatory nematodes which are what I use.

I have thought about puting Air Pot in panty hose leg,my guess is this will work.I never could seem to catch enough gnats in traps to make a diff.Gotta Love lady Bugs,if bugs are there they will completly work over a plant.I sit and waste time watching them when I put some on my plants.

Another thing I do is I take a couple sticky pads and and I rub them against the stalk of my plants.. I noticed gnats will crawl up and down your stems if you have fans blowing around ( small insects can fly in high winds so keep the fans moving) anyways this prevents them from crawling up and down your plant. Yeah like I said earlier you can catch the adults butt chances are they already had a fuck fest and laid larvae in your soil.

Do grow tents keep the Gnats out?
No, most likely you brought them in from somewhere, if you grow from clone there's a high probability thats where you got them from. All sorts of critters outside so you might have brought one in on your shirt or in your hair, also keep pets out of grow room/area all sorts of bugs could jump on to their fur and then in to your garden.. They are a nuisance rather than a crop killer so dont harsh your mellow just keep those motherfuckers to a minimum.

I don't have a grow tent.I do a ghetto grow in a shower stall,my probs. are gnats and thrips,I think the thrips come from my soil.I'll check out how to sterilize soil.Thought if tents keep out gnats, aphids and mites they may be worth the bucks.

You can grow anywhere and be fine, however I will tell you one thing watch your bathroom tub & sink drains. Gnats and bugs live inside those drains and in the sewer pipes and they will crawl out looking for a new better home ( your garden ) thats probably where your gnats came from if they didnt come from the clone.. cover that drain and only leave it open when you are watering your plants.
