Cola limit? 5 gallon smart pots

I will be throwing my girls into flower in the next 2 1/2 weeks and I have been savagely supper cropping and topped once, and one more week until I top again for clones

So my question, as I couldn't find anyone else asking, is there a limit to the amount of colas I should create for my girl? At some point is there too many tops? Seems too good to be true that the more tops I have the more bud

They all have currently, 3-6 tops each (one kinda grew fucky on me hence 3)
And I will be topping once more and probably another super cropping round during the flip you guys see how many I should have
Info greatly appriciated

Don't think there is a maximum amout of tops

Its more about the pot size, light, airflow, space and root mass
Also veg time

Had 4 plants with 8 tops in 14ltr buckets yielding
16 oz's dry bud under a 600w hps

So a plant in a 5 gallon could have 16 tops if you want as long as there well space out (lst) and have the light to cover the canopy

Or you could do scrog with 30 tops

I think I just needed some reassurance, I'll keep doin what I'm doin and should expect about 6-12 tops per plant and start experimenting

Lst and Topping are your best bet, guess you could Fim -must take into consideration the stress of plant and if your plants will be shorter, but with more buds, hope!!!! Your 5 gallon pot will become root bound, because of all the "methods"

6-8 colas is normal with some LST/FIM or topping, if you're concerned about the pots, go bigger, or use fabric pots, the fabric pots can handle much bigger plants due to how they grow the roots. This one just got pulled out of a 5gal fabric pot, it was relatively small, could have grown one twice this size in the same pot without having to worry about the roots getting bound up.

Very nice, love the colours, what strain? Looks like a nice yield from a smallish plant, you can produce so much more from any size plant with some twist ties and pinching (old school term we used for FIM or topping - lol)

yeh topping and lst can give you a lot more yield, northern lights and still got clones going in my current grow

Can you explain this more? Would it become rootbound if using root system airpots

Just top and LST and get those girls going horizontal to catch and fill all the light in your defined grow space. Get wall-to-wall green going and the plants will tell you how many colas they want to grow. Your job is to grow nice green foliage and lots of it. Plant will do the rest.

Seems you are pinching and tip training to increase yield, right? I think you can grow any number of tops -- BUT -- the total yield won't increase exponentially. Given proper conditions (light, water, nutes) your real limiting factor to a bigger yield is the size of your pot. 5 gal. is pretty modest, try going to a 15 or 30 and you will see dramatic increases. So what do you want, lots of small/medium buds or several big honkin' colas? I prefer medium buds as they do not seem to be as susceptible to mold and rot as the big "beer can" sized buds. Keep up the good work!

True dat man. My grow being in my musty old basement leaves me susceptible to mold if I'm not diligent about preventing it. When a top starts to get too fat I start to worry. I'll take dem dere golf ball nugs any time. Thats mostly why I havent been using LST as much these days. I can handle nice even banana sized colas but its the damned girth of them that can spoil the party for me.

Going with 10 gallon pots (plastic) have used air-pots (22liter) and 5 gallon buckets. Have to pick strains for good yields
