Cooling/ventilation issue!

As far as I understand, you won't be able to push any more cfm than your filter can handle. I'd consider getting a 6" filter with close to the same cfm as the fan you're looking at.
You're rigging this to your HPS or LED? My hood has 6" connections, so I matched all my equipment to that.

Edit: I'm in a 2x4x5 tent and even with a 6", I've got very little wiggle room concerning negative pressure. I'd even look into 8" rather than 6" since you're worried about noise. At least with an 8" you can run it at a lower speed, which will be quieter than a 6" at full tilt.
With your tent at 40 cubic feet anything above 200cfm seems over kill, thats five air changes every sixty seconds, one every twelve seconds.

Too much negative pressure takes you into the realms of wind tunnels and wont cool much past your ambients.

He's concerned about noise. Figured a bigger fan at 1/3 full speed would be better than a smaller at full. But like I said, fairly inexperienced.

Edit: Above that, with a carbon filter, ducting etc. That 200cfm isn't actually 200cfm. Even at full speed.

Haha thank you my friend. I'm a huge fan of the stuff that comes out of Morocco, Nepal, Afghanistan, etc.
I'm fairly new at all this (getting back into it) but feel free to shoot me a pm. I just went through 2 weeks of trying to control the heat in my tent so I may be able to offer some advice.
Will do brother! Are you from the Usa?

Your totally right, more advice would be to use a variac for your speed control but pricey. This way no hum from them cheap ones.

These things take away heat but wont cool much so still stuck with reducing your ambients.

Sometimes peeps ask too much and there set up could be located in a cooler spot.

Was thinking to make a hole there put a fan duct booster upthere attach a duct to it directly to the tent or just there to cool up the ambient temps in this little room just so I would be able to close this door and not hear the grow tents because this is where I sleep(where i took these pictures from) and where the Air conditioner is at my concern is that after making the hole upthere and putting the fan booster upthere i will hear the tent as if I had the door open which is bothering me when I sleep I need to kee it open so the cold air conditioned air goes in there and bring the tents temps down help please!!

Trial and error, i just wanted to add the basics to give you somthing to go on. Heat is easily removed but if you have a hot room your tent will run hot reguardless of the cfm of the fan.

My solution was to just spend years getting use to the noise, after your first harvest youll sleep like a baby from all the weed.
