ok, so you've never heard of benchrest, skeet shooting, hunting, etc. lots of ppl dont even like to hunt, they own guns to shoot other stuff like clay pigeons and bottles. its really fun, you should try it sometime b4 you say a guns sole purpose is to kill people.

no no no, noone shud have guns, no one shud have any sort of guns or bombs or shit we need less and lees of all this shit to murder like millions of people, or as guns do, kill thousands of people every yea from gun crime, if all other people dint have guns, you wouldnt need them either.

A fair point, and one of the reasons I'm conflicted about gun control. I've been target shooting, and it is fun. I understand being interested in firearms from a collectors standpoint, or as someone interested in the history/technology or firearms, and in the art, science and skill of shooting.
But, still, firearms as a category of tool are *designed* to kill--usually, people. The history of firearms and warfare are inextricable. There are specialized guns that are further designed to some research or engineering/hobbyist specification, but when you take a step back you see that such variants and such research/engineering pursuits serve to refine the state-of-the-art in order to produce better weapons.
I recognize that shooting is also a hobby and can be a sport. Certainly, hunting has its place. So, shotguns and rifles--yes, absolutely. (Even though I would maintain these are secondary uses in that warfare prompted firearm development, not hunting. Humans hunted proficiently for eons w/o firearms. Just ask a bow enthusiast.)
But none of that can justify anyone's need to own a .50 cal sniper rifle. You might as well mount a recoilless rifle on your front porch.
In the US, the debate comes down to handguns and assault weapons and other weapons essentially dedicated to combat. And, as I said, I'm conflicted about control of such weapons. But I don't have any illusions about the purpose of those kinds of firearms.
Anyway, this is getting off topic, and is probably a bummer, so I'm going to drop it here and

ya, i agree that killing and violence is bad. guns can and do hurt ppl whether it be intentionally or by accident(ppl that dont know/care about the firearm safety rules because of ignorance). what about ppl that enjoy hunting and ppl who hunt to help put food on their table? we cant get rid of guns.... period. its a matter of changing our corrupt society and bringing peace on earth(i can only wish). until we change everyone on earths mentality, there will always be violence. would be nice if there were more ppl like you on this planet!!
ya, i love it, gives me something fun to do.
im pretty good at skeet i might add. PULL... naw i dont go to a range, i throw them up in the air by myself and shoot them with my pump 12 guage. i can throw up four and shoot all of them b4 the hit the ground!!!!!! four is on a good day, 3 is easier, i wish i had a semi auto, would be alot easier.your not thinking about the ppl that live in the woods with lions, tigers, and bears, ohh my..... lol.. seriously some ppl pack a pistol just in case they get jumped by bear in the woods! i dont have a pistol myself but i think they would be fun to target shoot with. and for that purpose i would like to get one. i have never killed a person, nor would i ever use my guns to get revenge on anyone, that would be the last thing on my mind unless it was a life or death situation and i had a gun at my disposal. im a bow hunter and have only hunted deer with a bow! i dont like killing them but i do like eating them. i like to be in the woods and the act of hunting but not the shooting and killing part- maybe im a little primordial.
what about someone that lives in the prairies where your usual shot at a deer is 400+ yards? ya a 30 cal could do it, but a 50 cal would have more take down power for a more humane kill. but ya, 50 cal is a little much, just giving an example.
ya, too bad they didnt sell guns where you the operator couldnt shoot if it was of malicious intent. then there wouldnt be so much controversy about firearms. there are good ppl and bad ppl out there, what can you do?
