Crowdfunding/Collaboration - LED Light

I'm not sure if this has been up for discussion before, but I have experienced pretty good collaboration efforts (in example) watch forums and such in crowdfunding/sourcing a new product. In this case a product by LED lovers for LED lovers. Just throwing it out there... hopefully it could lead to something reasonable and max efficient.

Before the mass explosion of LED products being dumped on the market in recent years using 3030 smd technology, mostly from Samsung and Osram, the only non-chinese companies that were catching on to this were companies like ChilLed and HLG. ChilLed is still today crushing it and a lot can be learned from them. From China it was companies like Meijiu and Kingbrite who were making QB boards like 288 and 800+. Other than that it was mostly DIY strip builds from Digi-key and Arrow.

I guess my inquiry or question would be if there are people in this forum who would be interested in designing a product based on todays LED technology?

Sourcing of the following would be a good start:

MxPCB design and production
LED diodes
Soldering/assembly
Fixture - Heatsinks, connectors etc
Drivers

Thinking 4x4 primarily.

Would love to see a fixture with one string of BL 5700k 98cri for every string of BL 1750k 80cri.

I've done some quick calculations, it would be sweet for a vertical grow (heavy on the 1750k for stretch), with all 5700k for the last two weeks to encourage resin development.

Just a thought. Know it probably sounds stupid to most everyone else, but you asked , sooooo.

Look into bridgelux vesta strips, its almost what your after: 5000k / 2700k 90cri on separate channels.

I know, I know, but it's not QUITE red enough. Do like the Vestas, though. Looked into the Thrive Vestas. They have a dual row, 98cri Vesta, but it's actually cheaper to buy two Thrive strips in the same cct.

Have you tried those ccts out yourself? Personally i feel 2700k 90cri is actually a little light on blue, its nice for transpiration.

Well yeah... diy leds are mostly modules w/o reds from either bridgelux or samsung. I'm talking about designing strips with far reds (osram, samsung or cree) incorporated, maybe even some UV (LG). The strips from these companies don't include reds, except that one lm301H Evo strip from Samsung that's super expensive. The purpose of crowdfunding would be to reduce the sourcing price of diodes. The price of 10,000 lm301B Evo's is much higher than 100,000 EVO's. The whole idea is to create a product that would be good enough and cheap enough for anyone coming on this forum asking for 'what light should I buy.' I also think it would rock the boat enough in the LED market if we sent Coco for Cannabis and/or MIGRO a prototype which would impress, at a much better price (because we are sourcing through buying power rather than profiteering...) In the end, the more people who buy, the less the cost... and that's really all I care about. You still have to buy the strips, the wires, drivers, the metals... might as well create something which is still semi diy which is better at a lower price.

Exactly... if you want to add far reds or UV, and for those who think deep reds still matter, you have to buy strips of like 11 diodes and shove them between the rows... I mean it works, it isnt that... but would be good to have a strip which already has all the good stuff, at a much lower price!

Can someone confirm if the 'design files' for this strip is a 'cad' file for the board? https://www.samsung.com/led/lighting/led-modules/industrial-light-module/horticulture-module-gen2/

I'm not that savvy on the computer design side, but aren't DWG files autocad files? The design files for H influx seem to be DWG... https://www.samsung.com/led/lighting/led-modules/industrial-light-module/h-influx/

Ok, so HLG's new Scorpion Diablo has around 3888 301B and 301H EVO diodes and at around 717w out the wall is the most efficient 5x5 light there is. I think a good aim therefore would be to design something around a 600w HLG driver for a 4x4.

I am also very impressed by the results in this videos of 2 arrays of 300w strips:
Only 2 rows with that type of coverage is quite impressive. If I can get that coverage with only 2 boards that ticks all the boxes.

The story of how Optic got started left a bad taste in many a mouth.
One of our contributing forum members was nice enough to designed a DIY COB light, made from a speaker box, and a few other basic parts. He posted those designs on here, open source, and a different forum member simply took that design and started Optic LED with it.
Obviously, not cool.

I did some “consulting” early on for Area 51 back in 2011.
They wanted to help the community, and make the best LED lamp, for the best price.
They got an engineer to design a prototype, I helped with the spectrum selection, and there was a financial backer.
We were led to believe that this team effort was the foundation for a new company involving all three of us.
Instead, the financial backer took the data, prototype design, all for himself, and started Area 51 LED without us.
He made over a million dollars with that company and loved to post pics of his PayPal wallet on here to prove it.

Anyone see a pattern forming?
Good, now don’t get involved, and become the next example in my story.

Right. Not cool at all... typical bullshit.

I believe there are companies that handle crowdfunding or crowdsourcing I guess would be the better term. These companies will guarantee delivery of the product within the agreed timeline and whoever is interested in investing will receive the agreed upon product. I guess a limit of 10 lights per person would be reasonable? Or 6000w cap.

The main point is not starting a company and making shit tonnes of money, hell if that was the case I would just start my own thing... the whole idea is to make a superior product at a reasonable price. Something like the photoboost strips, just newer tech and simplified. f

Then again, maybe I should just start my own thing. Seems like people are happy with just buying commercial lights anyways... would be nice with another option than kingbrite, photoboost, led-tech.de etc... for strips that go in any ole 100w strip anyhow... guess people would rather puzzle and connect a bunch of one footers and call it good...

Like I said, I'm an anarchist... f#!= optic, area 51, hlg etc etc... they're sellouts with a profit margin... the best way to hurt that profit margin would be to flood the market with cheap strips that do the same thing or better.
