Curing

What’s up everyone! I recently harvested and hung dried the plants whole in a room with an RH around 62% and a temperature 60-70F for roughly 8 days till the branches snapped but I have a problem. I am now curing the weed in jars but the RH is roughly 53-55% and I’m not sure if that’s too low to cure. Did I over dry? The entire stem didn’t snap only the highest portion and the lower stem didn’t snap but I still have a low RH for some reason. Will my buds still cure or are they too dry? Also opinions on using Boveda packs cuz I read they rob smell and flavor. Thanks in advanced!

I'd throw a Boveda pack in there. You want to keep the RH between 55-65% when curing.

That's weird cause 62% humidity air will leave 62 buds are you using the same hygrometer to measure both? I use a damp piece of paper towel over the jars with the lid on to raise humidity but keep an eye on it.

no it’s a different hydrometer. I would have thought the same but maybe it’s just the hydrometer that’s off. I can put themboth in thedrying tent to see if they readdifferently tho

No 62% buds would be quite wet still, they just regulate the jar air not the buds that way they store better. Boveda is not a dry or cure product its just a storage pack which isnt much needed if you dry the bud well first before jarring.

Keep your room cooler and put in jars around 65 then burp them our leave them open until you bump it down to 60. lock it up at 60 and it will keep on curing. Once you let it go below 55 you have stopped the curing process. It can be re-wet a bit but Be careful not to turn it back into cut grass. I just pull a quarter out of jar in the morning and put in an unzipped baggie in my tray and smoke at 50-55 but my weed keeps curing and tasting better for up to a year and will still be dead on @60RU. Also it will not lose potency. When it’s cured right you can grab a sugar leaf and shake the bud without the leaf tearing or breaking, your trying to cure it like broad leaf cigar tobacco.

Does it crumple up when you grind it? Stuff that's too dry won't do that

Or just throw a fan leaf into your jar for some hydration.
Easier to do.

How long was the bud in the jar before you got the reading? The Rh would be higher say overnight vs like an hour or 2

it was about a few hours but before that it was at a steady 57

No it breaks fishes up perfectly fine and feels kind of moist. As I was trimming some sugar leaves weren’t even dry yet they were still moist

Yes you take measure at 24 hours. That’s why you don’t want to over dry on hang, easier to monitor for consistency in jars. I get a dozen of the small RU digitals and drop them in the jars. Usually try to wait at least two weeks. Like most things with plants , patients is your friend and you will taste the difference. Another trick is to just cut tips of sugar leaf and let all that sticky trichrome and resin goodness encase your bud in a cocoon. Pull off racks when the sugar gets a bit crunchy. When your ready to smoke just pull the few straggly Sugars and grind it up

Breaks up*

If sugar leaf isnt dry it needs longer drying, Wet leaf dosent burn all to well when smoked.

but then why would the Rh be so low? It burned just fine when it got smoked

24 hours ....sounds like your good just seal and check tomorrow night.

I dont really take a lot of notice over relative humidity, kinda learned easier better ways that dont overly complicate and still produce the same results.

Your describing your sugar leaf as dry and moist, i dont think they can be the same thing sorry. If its moist it still needs to dry or it releases moisture in the jar and were trying to avoid moisture loving mold which loves moist jars.

Best idea is overdry and jar then start refining your method over more harvests,R trying to follow a lot of this recent stuff seems to end in total confusion or tears more than often.

It is total co fusion because they all say something different. But the buds feel dry and the stem still has some bend to it before it snaps so I’m assuming that’s enough moisture in them. I know for a fact I won’t get mold atleast lol

As for the sugar leaves. The outsides were dry and crunchy on the outside but some were still moist on the Inside. Does that make more sense now?
