When first curing make sure your buds are not too wet, if they are remove from jar until they dry a bit then put in the jar with a Humidipak to prevent mold. When the buds don't feel too wet anymore keep checking occasionally by putting your finger in the jar. Then you can keep them in the jar indefinitely.

I usually do all my trim wet I cant leave hanging around, it hanging to dry anywhere near my house and my sons allergies kick in. something about the stems and leaves. so I trim all the buds off immediately do all my trim while wet. I put it then in a large Tupperware or in between two silk screen frames and let them dry turning and flipping them eight to ten times a day wearing nitrile gloves turning gently. When the buds are dry to touch when given a little squeeze I then jar them opening and dumping out and replacing several times a day till the proper consistency of dryness is achieved and then seal tight and leave it alone never open it again for at least 7 to 14 days depending on how out of meds I am lol.

Doing this, I find, looses the skunk smells to a more hay smell, and burns harsh, with a chemical taste. I will say, trimming wet is much easier.

Put your buds in the jars for about 8 hours, then check and see how moist they are. If they are limp and wet again, dump them into a paper bag for 8 hours, with the top of the bag folded over. Once they're dry again, put them back into the jars with lids tight. Check again in 8 hours. If wet and limp again, you didn't dry them long enough. Put them back in a paper bag for at least another 8 hours and repeat.

After a couple of days, they should dry out pretty well and can stay in the jars but open them often to check they aren't sticking together or sticking to the sides or bottom of the jar. If they are, dump them out and separate and maybe leave them out for an hour, then back in the jars. Once they no longer stick together or to the glass, you can just spin the jars around to separate the buds, then remove the tops and smell. As long as you don't smell musty ammonia smells and your buds aren't sticking to the glass, you can cut back to opening once a day for about 2 weeks.

I found it depends on the smoke I have smelled daily to see the change in the cure and time it takes to really start to funk up. It all usually goes from pot to grass or hay to no smell to nice to good then great. It only starts to smell good to me around 14 days for indicas and around 30 days for sativas. Sativas will keep that hay smell a lot longer but time will let the smell out I had a big bang smelt skunky when chopped then when dried and jarred went straight hay and stayed that way about three weeks before it went to a sweet skunky smell. I would hang but have no place to do that with the allergens that react with my son. If it is anywhere near the house. lol
