CXB3590 1500W

I'm wondering if I might have made a mistake in ordering. I just ordered:

4 CXB3590 3000K 72V
4 CXB3590 3500K 72V
4 CXB3590 5000K 72V
12 Ideal holders
12 LED 80 degree Glass Lens
3 HLG-185H-C700A Drivers

And after reading a few pages back, it sounds like I would get better dispersion and higher lumens were I to have ordered the 32V. I think it's too late to change the order but if I can, would I be better off with the 32V 3590 for lumens and efficiency? 4 COB on one driver.

Yep I have a couple containers of the aqua-carbon and it is very big.. used it for a couple diy MINI filters.

You order the air phase online or can you find it [for something other than what we want it for ;)] locally? I have plenty of window screen I could use if that would suffice.. Hope you're doing well brother.
I've done a few DIY carbon scrubber projects using various types of carbon from www.bulkreefsupply.com these guys have good prices on bulk and some extruded carbon that is so small,(ROX carbon) that it might actually be more effective ...

I can see you have sealed the lid around the edges with tape, so have you just drilled a bunch of holes in the top of the lid for air flow? Do you have any mesh or fabric under the carbon?

This is so simple and cheap, imma copy :)
I carved out sections out of the lid and covered it with paint strainer material, duct taped in place. For this one I am going to try aluminum window screen.

Sturdy lids that have some depth to them and clamps are probably the best bet. These were about $5 at Walmart. The 7.5 gal size fits the Max Fan 6" but the larger the tote the more surface area for the carbon, allowing better airflow and at a slower speed, more contact time with the carbon. That is an advantage of the cylinder shape more surface area in a compact size.

Supra, would it be too much to ask for some more dry bud shots? I prefer those over preharvest photos, as they usually indicate a lot more, in my view. I love both, though. Just figured it would be cool. Do you vape?

For sure man will do. It will be a bit though because they are not ready yet. 12 different ladies to sort through, some have big bright trichs some are small. Eyeballing it so far looks like it will be good in terms of yield and gpw.

I dont vape but no special reason why, we smoke the flowers and the scissor straight up. Some of my friends are into vaping so I get reports from them on what they like. Recently someone gave the Cali Connection - 22 Jack Herer a thumbs up for vaping. It has a nice balance of sweet and spicy and strong flavor.

If you are planning on running them at 50W ea then you got the correct COBs and drivers.
@ Supra - Thanks for the reply. My idea was to run them at 50W each but not push them too hard, I want the longevity too. I'm looking to use COBs to equal or better a 600W Hortilux HPS.

But maybe I'm misreading the info from the comments, recently I've gotten the impression I'd get more lumens & efficiency with the 32V CXB3590. Although I haven't received a tracking # yet, I'm guessing it's too late to change the order.

@Megalomando As long as the COBs are properly cooled, running CXB3590 @ 50W ea will still give you more longevity than you could ever use so no worries there. Your drivers will allow you to dim them and that will increase the efficiency while it is dimmed.

The 36V version is more versatile for underdriving because you can run it at 25W or 50W with good driver matches. Driving CXB3590 under 50W ea is probably considered something that only makes sense with certain circumstances such as solar powered grows, Hawaii, stealth grow, hear limited production etc

The temps probably won't matter much for me. For me, efficiency really only matters in terms of being as green as possible. I wanted to get away from the HPS because I dislike the short tube life and that so much of the energy is lost in heat, giving so much less light energy for wattage used. With more light energy per watt from COBs, it only makes sense to not use HPS.

I had no idea which voltage COB to get, so much of the reading talked about drivers and COB variety with the CXB3590 being so well talked about & not so much the voltage. I chose the higher V COB because I figured it would take less amps to run and the .7 amp driver seemed to be well matched with 4 CXB3590 in other threads. Sometimes it gets hard to follow a thread and pick out the gold when several people express differing ideas as to what works best. :)

Sounds like I'll be OK with this voltage COB then and I can still dim it if I wish, I just won't get the efficiency I thought I was going to get. Now to decide on the size of the heatsinks and order the fans.

Regards vaping, you should really consider making it a habit. Not only is it practical in many ways, it also hurts our lungs way less than regular smoke.... If we dont look out for ourselves, noone will. There is no reason to deliberately damage oneself.

If you dim it to 525mA (35.5W ea) the COBs will be at 61.2% efficiency.
If you had got the 36V COBs and run them at 700mA (23W ea) they would be 64%.

So you are not too far off that mark. If you have a strong emphasis for efficiency you should be able to resell the 72V COBs and grab the 36V though.

Yea we have been thinking the same thing and will have to look into it more.

You really should, Im prebiased against smoking, but buy one anyway! I love the taste it gives you, and supposedly, you get more benefits from cannabis, when not blazing it away. Nice buds. Despite all your help and a looong correspondence with Jerry, I still havent placed an order for COBs. Im waiting to see, what heatsinks I can get, as Id love to do passive cooling for the ease of the wiring. Im having problems studying for finals with this project on its way...

If I can get the 36V COBs instead, wouldn't I take a hit in lumins? it seems like 23W as opposed to 50W would be much less output. Or, would the output be about the same? It would be great to put out the same lumins with less heat being made.

I suppose it's academic as 56.3% isn't that far from 64%

I'm learning a lot here and its awesome to have so much help in this forum.

Hey @SupraSPL thanks for helping all of us get into this awesome technology. I am going to go with your 4 x CXB3590 36V @ 3500K / 1400ma driver build recommendation to add to my flower room.

Need some lights for a 3' 9" x 3' 9" vegging area. Do you have any recommendations for this? I believe I read that you are using 400 PPFD for veg, is that correct? Would you go 5000K?

yes it's cxb3590 5000k cd for vegging
I will recall me that told me SupraSPL
So for germination and vegetative phase (growth and surment stretch for some variety of hemp)
it should be good
