As long as there is genuine interest. I"ll work on the logistics of keeping the customer safe. Like I said if I can make few bucks my wife will let me keep on "playing around" with this but if I can't show her its worth my time and effort she is likely to give me the boot from the garage.
i have a few questions.
how long does it take to run the test. if you were to receive a sample today when would you have results?
can you do multiple samples at once? if you receive numerous samples per day would there be a "backup" in results?
how old does the plant have to be before i can take a sample?
what about hermaphrodite traits?
i can't think of much else. it almost sounds to good to be true. if you can do this in a timely manner i think you may be very successful.

Heres how you can protect your customers sir.
You have someone send you a sample, with a piece of paper thats says on it
Johnnyappleseed420.
They enclose $10 Cash
You run the test and post on your webpage:
Johnnyappleseed420 - Male
They go there and see whatever they chose to write on the paper and the result.
Multiple plants are just as easy.
just label the samples 1, 2, 3 ect
and post accordingly.

Its a Freaking great service, and to be honest you could save people SOOO much time.
What would even take this a step farther is if you can identify a seed's sex before germination and sold only TRUE female seeds. Not feminised but TRUE females.
Thats the way to go, its like next step feminised seeds, you could get $10 a seed.
I Have done research and do know that it is possible to tell the sex of a seed before it is germed, it isnt cost effiecient though and thats why they dont do it.
Good luck and if you do start selling true female seeds or offering your service I'll be either your first customer or your first person ripped off.

well, i think this idea has great potential, and that you should really pursue it. FDD said he's interested, and he's a magnet for people on this site, his approval alone should let you know to do it.
you can SEND anything you want. just don't put your name on it.
if you still don't trust him then just don't use his services.

hydrotech364 sent me some known strains, and the only way to do that is via the mail. Now if only I could get at least one more fucking Papaya to sprout! 
I don't want to disappoint, and he's got some beauty plants going at the moment. The Cali I x BB is already sprouting, though. 
Genemaster, I'm rather surprised that you can perform a genetic test for as little as $10. Honestly, at this moment, I'm incredulous about that. Not about the technology, about the cost. fdd poses some excellent questions.

There are ways of setting up a site so that a person can log into their own account and see their results privately. This would require a password, of course, but there are probably some cheap templates out there for exactly that. Like how my typing is tested online, and only those who have my account name and password can view the results.

Okay to answer your questions. Takes 24-48 to do the test. Yes I can do literally 96 samples at a time. Most time is in isolating the DNA from the plants. I would say 24hrs to get the DNA(if there are a large number of plants) 4hrs to run the genetic screening.

Well I actually have all the raw material I need at this point to do alot of analysis. All that is required is my time. If I run out of my ability to get the raw material the cost could go up somewhat but not apprecialby if the volume is substantial.

I can't confirm this 100% but hermaphrodites would likely score positive as being male in this assay.

I'd do some analysis for you for half price if it would help me spread the word. Or maybe just a few test plants if you want to try it.

how big of sample do you need? i assume any age, pretty much as soon as it's big enough to take the sample.

FYI I did this for myself. 31 seedlings took less than 24hrs for me to do myself. But I obviously wouldn't want to commit to such a short turn around. I would feel comfortable saying 3-7days. Cut my plants down to 18 females. Kept a few males for breeding but segregated them out. Unfortunately 6 of my 8 white widows were males!

Tissue sample about the size of a pinky nail is plenty. The younger the tissue the better. Like I said I tested cotyledon's or the first leaf on my plants. But I waited until they had one set of true leafs before I took them.
