digital ballast problems

hey guys soi just recently bought
2 600w digital ballasts
http://htgsupply.com/Product-Digital-Greenhouse-600-watt-HPS-Grow-Light.asp

when i connected them my tri meter went nuts. so i went to my hydro shop to exchange it they told me the issue is not my meter its my ballast. they said any meter i use will do the same thing. i need to change my ballast , they said it is not rf sheilded so its releasing radio frequencies which can affect radios, meters and older tv's. they told me an issue is it can bring the electric company arround and from the outside of your domain they have tools that can see if you have elec ballasts. I do not want this kind of attention does anyone know how to make an rf seild or can help????:wall:

Good luck man. I have one magnetic ballast and one digital ballast and I'm about ready to go get another magnetic ballast and put the digital on the shelf for a backup, although not for the same reasons you have.

Build a Faraday cage either 1" chicken wire or home made does the trick building a heavily woven mesh cage around anything that gives off rf will stop it in it's tracks
when a radio frequency is emitted by something the actual wave needs a set amount of distance between point a (transmitter) and point b (reciever)
or else it wont gather it's packets properly and you'll have a horribly quality works when trying to eliminate rf as well.
On a side note Hydro is supposed to be using licensed frequencies so if a hydro tech comes out and says your house is the origin of the issue, A you don't need to respond to him, B you call your local mp and the crtc and hydro it's self
c) you tell them that is they don't switch you over to their licensed frequencies you will be filing a lawsuit in small claims court for intentional noise disruption no humans can't hear raw rf's but it still is an invasion of your property and privacy.
if all else fails build a faraday cage around the hydro meter technically it's not illegal and the only way they could make you take it down is if they actually follow their protocol,
tinfoil has been said to work as well but mostly only when put over top of the recieveing end not the transmitting end

so sould the cage be built around the ballast? and would a wire screen like the one on most household windows work?

as long as the screen is made of wire and not that fake metal plastic crap, take a lighter to it to check.
try to build something along the lines of this http://www.jeddaniels.com/2007/faraday-cage-part-1/
making a small tight hole for the cords to come out of, let me know how it works for you if you decide to go this way.
cheers mate i hope this will save you some money.
