In each post, there is a Post #, and a little blue scale, looking like this:

When someone helps you, advises you or says they like what you posted, you should click those scales in that post, and leave your name and a comment.
Then the receiver of the + REP should return the favor and give you REP back.
It is good manners.

OK, I can understand the air pumps, bubblers, lighting. etc.

Now if im doing a 5g bucket with 4 gallons of water, the irrigation manifold need to be out of the water, correct?

Is that hooked up to the same pump at the air stone?
How do you connect the manifold?

Thanks,
hey buddy, so the net cups dont sit in the res water like a dwc? the 1/4" solution lines in the net cups should be used in beginning of grow for seedlings, or the whole grow? once the roots hit the water cant you stop using the 1/4" line? thanks.

The AIR Pump pumps the AIR to the air stones.

The WATER PUMP pumps the water through the hub through the tubes, to the cups, to the cubes..

The Submersive water pump AND Irrigation Hub is in the water, under the water.

The cups sit 2 inches above the water linem with a 2 inch AIR Pocket between the top of the water and the bottom of the cups.

Hey Roseman in post 465 the two pics of the manifolds, is the pump on and at full flow in both pics?
I have the raindrip 8 port manifold from lowe's which is adjustable. I also tried one from HD a dig brand and it was a 6 port adjustable, but it was poorly made and had poor flow. The raindrip flows great for me. I am running a 396 gph ecoplus and flows like your second pic. The ecoplus works for the tub, but I am extremely disappointed in its overstated flow.

hey roseman, i was just wondering: when the root mass gets as big as it is in that first post pf yours on here, what happens then? i mean are the roots submerged more or less continuously in the reservoir? (i guess they would have to be, but in that picture w/ the huge amount of roots the lid was sitting on the backs of chairs so...)
anyway, i was sorta interested in trying this technique out but not sure how it would work out (for me, murphy's law ya know). so let me know what happens as the plant gets bigger (root system gets bigger i mean) thanks.:peace:

That is a wide open flow in those pics, pics I made to test the pumps and hub.
When placed in an operating system, the water pump will suck in lots of air (bubbles) and make the pump gurgle or gargle and pump out a trickle or a mix of air and water, so in the system it is not that soldi of a stream.

Those giant roots are a pic of AFTER a harvest, just showing how big the roots got on a plant 40+ inches tall. I average 3 full grown females in one tank with the tank about hlaf full to 3/4 fuull of roots, which is very desirable and OK. The more roots, the more plant.

The roots stay about 75% - 80% submerged and 20% to 25% in a 2 inch air pocket between the bottom of the cups and the top of the water line. They need that air pocket and the water too.

Was wondering if an 18 gallon tote will work as well
yes it will work. But it is rather large. I would only use something like this in a RDWC (Recirculating DWC) setup. If you are gonna use it you will definitely want to elevate the tote and also install a couple of the drainage spouts to help with draining. It may still be a huge pain draining/replenishing depending on your setup and water availability.

you run the air and water pump 24/7.

Do you have a pic of the Irrigation manifold or irrigation hub you got at Walmart? Is it the divider for aquariums?
