Do I Have To Keep My Plants 2 Inches Below The CFLS????

I am currently vegging a plant under 2 daylight cfls. It is currently on day 4 of vegging and the stem looks really weak and it keeps on falling over. The first set of leaves are lush green but the stem is greenish white. I keep my plant 2 inches from the lights because a previous cfl grower told me to. The peat pot that i am using gets dry easily along with the soil. What can I do to help my plant??? Should I keep the plants even further away from the light???? or something else???:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

The rule of thumb with CFL's is to get them as close as you can to the plant without burning the leaves.
Since CFL's and other lights in general lose a lot of light power the further away they get you need to try and keep them as close as you can.
As for the stem bending over, grab yourself a pencil, stick or anything rigid and tie that little sucker to it to keep it from falling over, it dosnt have to be tight just enough to keep it upright.
Im betting within a week or so it will stand tall on its own.
Good luck!

same deal here yo. stem is mad week, so the leaves arent really even as far as the angle of growth. but that's okay, cua sei don't htink that'll affect whether or not it buds

Just give it time.

I found that by bending open a paperclip you can make a little V at one of the ends of the paper clip and then stick the other end into the soil.

Works pretty good until they can stand by themselves.

Also, when you repot, just put them up to their lowest leaves in soil.

You can also put a light breeze on them by an oscilating(sp?) fan on them from a distance.

True, the fan breeze simulates real wind causing the stalks to get minute rips and tears in the fibers. When they continue to grow they get very strong stalks.

I use 2 42W CFL's about 6 inchis from my plants for veging works fine for me, nice strong plants. 6 plants tops for that lighting though...

I used daylight cfl's(100 watt replacements) for veg and they worked great. 2 per plant and they grew much strong with no stretching. They grew so short and bushy that it makes it a pain to water them. I kept a distance of anywhere from 2-4 inches. I hope you figure out why them stems are so weak.

put things under the pots rather than lowering the lighting... anything works... old school books work great for this... about time they helped me!
a foot away is kind of pushing it
