Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

The timing of that technique is very important and if you do it too late, it hurts yields..I have had very good success with it scrogging.. There are many benefits not just yield, but helps humidity levels at the canopy level as well as air circulation around the tightly compacted bud sites, it helps with light penetration into the canopy etc..for the strains that take to this stress it is very beneficial and timing is crucial because it can stunt growth if done too late.
So here’s your plant you posted in another thread on day 21. Looks like it has most leaves on it still? So you just type this nonsense for fun?

asking for a friend

also feed your plant, you have a nitrogen deficiency

Also that’s a trellis, not a scrog FYI

No nitrogen defincency here, that is the temp swing bringing out the sexy colors.. and yes your correct that is a trellis net supporting the bud sites, not a scrog..and I gave the “shwazzing” teqnique as a example. If you want to talk shit bring it on bud, I have broad shoulders.

In a simpler world, everyone would mark the start of flowering when they flip to avoid confusion. I've seen photos where plants look to be at the end of their 6th week in flower, showing nice conical heavy colas filled with bud yet have the caption "Only 3 weeks in flower!". Then a newbie looks at it and begins to wonder why his plants at 3 weeks are only just beginning to form real budlets, so the poor newbie comes to forums like this to help with their "issue" of slow flower growth. Please save us all from this.

The fact is that the changes that induce transition in your plant happen very quickly after flip, within a few days at most, and once they do the plant has committed itself biologically to reproduce. When flowers appearing from the meristem are visible to the naked eye is completely arbitrary, and depend on eye-sight among other silly factors. And when is your plant flowering exactly? When we can see 40 pistils beginning to stick out of the apex, or just 2? What if the 2 visible pistils are not quite at the apex, but instead a node or two below? Preflowers or flowering? Not to mention that pistils (stigma) only appear after the calyx parts have already long been formed (that you can't see yet).

The biology that's going on under the hood is what's relevant, not what someone sees and decides to be flowering based on their on preconceptions of what flowering actually is. Some biology that goes on "under the hood": https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1539253/pdf/hw0039.pdf

Week 3 after bud set, more like 4 1/2 weeks after the flip..and yeah within 3 days of dropping the temps down at night to 65 degrees this pheno of the Lingerie strain started exhibiting some awesome colors. Pretty cool huh? The cookies kush, sour sunset, g13 haze and White Tahoe Cookies strains still are mostly green with some of the buds and leaves starting to purple up but the Lingerie is the show stopper in my garden.

Interesting thread

Seems like a question is being begged: *when* do you flip the lights?

If you’re not following a note schedule (fine), or some other overt plan, what makes you decide it’s time to flip? Is it from watching the plants, or an assumption about how long veg “ought” to last? What tells you that it’s time for the vegging period to end?

There’s a lot of passion about what ‘flowering’ means, but the bottom line is that cannabis is triggered to flower by photoperiod changes, so flowering isn’t even possible until the flip. As the one with the light switch, *you* decide when to initiate flowering, not the plant. If it takes “too long” for pistils to show after flip, maybe you should let them veg for longer?

(questions aimed at the thread, not at any body)

So now instead of counting since the 12/12 change you’re counting after bud set?

Holy contradictions Batman.

Looks like P deficiency to me. Not N.

The purple color is a P deficiency. P is less available to the plant at colder temps. It might look neat, but it means the plant is robbing nutes from itself.

If you read my original post on page 10 of thread it may make sense..I state I personally count flowering from bud set. But for all intensive purposes generically day one week one of the flip is the start of the magical pixie dust.

let’s meet in the middle. His plants are starving and he should feed them?

What tells you that it’s time for the vegging period to end?
Most of the time i flip not long after the plants show sex. Other times they dont show on their own, and need the shorter days.
If you flip before the plants reach maturity, switching to 12/12 doesnt really mean anything. Much like 12/12 from seed.

Not this topic again .... lol.

Counting is irrelevant as plant dictates how long it will take. “ Gets done when it’s done “ mantra.
Staring at them will not make them finish faster , better . Your skill .... grow environment ..... genetics will factor in .
So marking weeks on a calendar like your period time is just fruitless. Only reason for calendar is logging feed.

They veg , throw sex and change gears before you even flip , they “ tell you “ when they are sexually mature and ready for flower or seeding.

At 65 degrees the phosphorus is still readily available..I also keep my ph at 6.1-6.3 this late into flowering which is also a favorable range for the plants to take up phosphorus the plants are not using a lot of N at this stage..none of the other strains in the same system it’s just this one pheno from the lingerie that really started to exhibit these vibrant colors..I’m 38, I’ve been growing weed since I was 15..I owned and ran a 3 100ft greenhouse operation out in the Sierra Nevadas in Nevada county, CA..I sold it a few years back when the trimmers dam near made as much per plant as I did but I assumed all the risk and had many more hours invested..The gold rush is just about over in Cali...

P is not potash if that's what you're thinking.

But you should already know this if you've had your own greenhouse, lol.

This bullshit that plants don’t take N in flower is a joke. It’s the most used nutrient during its whole life.

but you should know this already if you’ve had your own greenhouse.
