Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

Wait. Am I too high right now?

we’re talking about cannabis clones having the exact dna makeup of its mother And the variables at best are environmental and or grower.(including equipment).
I’m not talking about humans. I just said that one little comment that clones are not the same as twins.
And then got right back to the point. But I appreciate the read though because i love getting into genetics before bed. I can read shit on it for hours. Even when I was breeding reptiles and birds I did
Love Science Daily, good and reasonable information here.
I pretty much went down most of the list last night and whatever I could find this morning before work. That article your provided was pretty much it. Everything else is very limited. But enough for me to understand where your coming from. However clones are still same as the doner plant Non of the at changes. But dna can split with maturity and when small amounts of stress and bad environments.(cutting high humidity and added hormones I’d assume) Dna splits do occurs leading to mutations. Now your freak plant with terps you never had before. You should of documented that for science. There is absolutely nothing that deep into the study.
That’s impressive. Terps are not a mutations. That’s underlying genetics. So that would be interesting to see if by what you did differently. You promoted the plants to use terps they wouldn usually? Idk. I’m rambling Sorry
For those who may have missed it, here is the conclusion from the CHS study I posted:

I stated counting the day I switched from 18/6 to 12/12 but didn’t see any hairs until day 11, so I think we should start counting from the day you first see hairs so I went back to my calendar and cross off the first 10 days…..and started counting from the day I saw hairs…..

Should just be starting from 12/12 IMO.
First signs of pistils can be subjective sometimes depending on when the grower actually notices it.
12/12 flip is the only firm point of reference. Add those 11 days back.

If you don't pay enough attention to your plants to know when they start showing signs of flower you have bigger problems in your grow then when you start counting time. There is no need for a "firm point of reference", all these plants grow differently and treating them like they should all be identical is going to leave you missing out on their potential.

If you want to be precise, then take the nessessary steps for precision.

If you want to be like me and just kind of wing it, welcome to the club :bigjoint:

If you do it long enough, some things beome second hand, and you keep realizing there is always more to learn.

Can I get some help. I’m got my clone in a clone king rooting but it’s day four and some leaves are turning yellow (what the problem) should I take yellow leaves off
I would start a new thread for this rather than post in a thread about an unrelated topic.

That being said, are those in rockwool? If so, take them out of the aero cloner and put them in a medium of some kind. Now that they have roots, those roots need air, and they are gonna stay waterlogged in rockwool. I'm pretty sure with the aero cloners you're just supposed to have the cuttings in the neoprene rings, no net pots and no medium...

i count it from the day i put them under the 12/12 - and use the breeders original time frame- for example, 8 weeks from the day i put the plants into flower- on the 56th day im already chcking the trichomes with the loupe

We know what we’re all discussing by using our 12/12 date. I don’t pay any homage to stated bloom times. I harvest when the plant is ready. I like my trykes mostly cloudy or pearl. I personally have no desire for amber or brown. I like my clears to be 10% max. Many times plants have pre-flowers when I transfer to flower tent, they still count from 12/12.
When checking trykes, only those on calyxes matter. Those leaf trykes are maybe a week or more ahead in changing.

I personally base it off of visual inspections and signs of flowering. I also systemetically forget when i flipped and almost always have to reference old photos with metadata still in place. Using breeder info is fine and all for references, but I know for sure that a breeder isn't growing in a 50 degree 3x3 tent with fluctuations hourly in temp and humidity, in a garage. Not many of us are able to recreate the lab conditions that led to that report.

What I'm getting at is just monitor your crops, she will tell you when shes ready.

So when do you start counting auto flowers from?
The same as outdoor cannabis plants, ONCE THEY ACTUALLY START TO FLOWER AND SHOW SIGNS. It's the same as most flowering plants. They would be considered "flowering" once their internal biology changes and they begin to produce flowers instead of just vegetative growth.

That is one of the big reasons I'm an advocate for getting away from the silly 12/12 counting indoors. It doesn't actually give you any real information about the plant, it's just an arbitrary number that people use because its easy to make a note of.

If you want to actually understand the plants better you need to pay slightly more attention and watch them. They will tell you when they start flowering. They will also tell you when they are finished and ripe. People just need to stop trying to make them live by a calendar, because plants don't read calendars.

I was wondering how do you count the flowering days.

Do you count from 12/12 switch from 18/6

Or

Do you start counting flowering days when you first see pistils?

I always have started counting the flowering period from when I see the first pistils, however I recently have seen a few people counting flowering period from when they switch from 18/6 to 12/12.

see I figured if I switch from 18/6 to 12/12 then it takes a further 10 days for the plant to show sex and I counted them days as the flowering period, that means I could harvest 10 days early as I counted them 10 days as flowering perid, just when the plant will put its weight on in the last 2 weeks.

I hope that makes sense.

Please Feel free to contribute to the thread & leave comments.

Peace

When i do photos, I will personally be counting from the day i switch to 12/12, the first 12/12 is day one.

Same as a photoperiod. However I do tend to listen to those reports as a closer guide line. This is wholly due to the ruderalis cross breeding traits. Whereas its plant maturity over light periods, the typical days to flower and harvest times are obviously much closer.

Still though, it will almost always be a case by case scenario. In my experience, Autos tend to be a +/- 1-2 weeks for me.

everyone different,i start count when i see the 1st hairs(i still mark down the start of 12/12).after 12/12flip can take anywhere to 10-14 days to see hairs so i dont count that 2 week stretch.my first grow back in the day i started count from flip at 12/12 and plants were not rdy when i chopped them like a noob, now i never count the 2 week stretch/sex showing.the main thing is just watch your plant you will know when its rdy after few grows
