Do you lose weight purging BHO?

I was wondering if I purged this BHO I have if it would lose any weight? It's super bomb:hump::hump::hump::hump: but its a little bit liquidy, as in if I touch it with a finger it sticks to my finger and in the past when I made it and whipped it myself - without purging it - i could twist my own dabs and form them.

do the butane bubbles have weight in them ? x)

yes they have wieght. yes you lose weight, but not product. you never want butane as part of the yield. no wonder clubs only want co2 oils.

alll obvious facts...
here, I bought a OZ of OG Kush BHO and its a little liquidy I wanna purge it myself so it's overall better product. But I do not want to lose final weight. I'm curious how much it would be, small drastic etc

If there is still butane, purging it will result in a decrease in weight, however it should be a very small precent.

get all of it out, then way your yield. you can purge it many different ways, so dont count your chickens til they hatch.

I just purged 22 G's of wax in a vacuum chamber 9 times. I lost less than a gram.

After a certain amount of vaccums I believe you begin to pull terpenes and such out of the oil. But with that much oil I don't see that happening as quickly. I never done that much at once, but someday.

That's just how many it took me to get my desired texture. Still smells and tastes fantastic, so I'm happy about it.

It depends on how much of a vacuum you pull, and for how long.. But I think you wouldn't have any issues pulling out terpenes regardless. I usually do 3-4 exposures at 28-29hg for 4 mins each... I stop purging when the oil STOPS reacting to the vacuum, as in the butane no longer bubbles out of the oil..... You would need to be well past purging before you start pulling terpenes out of BHO ..... Your going to destroy much much more by whipping your oil with heat.

I've only purged about 15g at a time though :)

Heat is the biggest enemy of terpenes. A vacuum by itself isn't going to cause terpene loss. I've found that if I don't expose my oil to temperatures above 150f, I don't get any noticeable terpene loss.

Some of the terpenes in marijuana have a boiling point as low as 248f. Even if you don't get your oil that hot, you can still loose terpenes as the temperature of your oil increases. Think about it like water... even if you don't heat water to its boiling point, the hotter the water gets, the faster it evaporates.... if you want to keep as much of the "good stuff" in your oil as possible, use only as much heat as you need to lower the viscosity of the oil enough to purge the butane.

You dont lose oil by purging it, you simply remove the shit that isnt oil, the net result is more potent hits and better for you. :) :)

The thing about vacuum enviornments, is that boiling points depend on air pressure... This is why vacuums are so good for purging oil... It drastically lowers the already low boiling point of butane, so we can purge more readily/rapidly at room temperature with minimum heat... So ideally, if we created enough of a vacuum for long enough, we COULD remove some terpenes from the oil. It's not a concern, but I just wanted to clarify that it's possible with a vacuum environment.
