Simple Question, Do you support the patriot act and why?

I do not support the Patriot Act, it is tyranny not liberty.

But exactly what is left of the Patriot act and how does it affect you?

well one major controversial aspect is warrant-less wiretapping which leads to many problems , one such problem for example is the department of homeland security has fusion centers which track data. If you didn't know, all of your phone conversations are recorded and reviewed at these fusion centers, with increasing technology more forms of tracking are coming to surface, such as retina tracking with digital photography and tracking of your GPS coordinates on the Internet and when you carry a smart phone.

Sure..its mostly harmless ...or is it? for me its the principle of the matter when it comes to liberty.......but perhaps the data will be put to good use, do you trust them?

This very post I am making here will be read by a fusion center employee and tracked by googles software.

This has been going on for over 60 years. It was illegal to wiretap US overseas Phone calls without a warrant
However since we had a treaty with UK and Australia for monitoring phone calls
We would simply ask the UK or australia to intercept the calls and then pass the info on to us.
Voice to text programs like Dragon is a direct result of DARPA wonder why they funded that ...heh?

This morning I got a MPAA copyright notice. My ISP hijacked my browser to tell me about possible downloading of copyrighted material. Think I should be Paranoid?

we traded our rights for "safety" so no i dont support that shit.... now anyone could be "labeled" if you know what i mean...... but anyways we still have 4 more years of this bullshit since obama decided to get an extension

extended the patriot act

All but 3 parts of the patriot act are permanent. He extended 3 parts. Read up on it

No, Obama did not toss out most of the Act, Presidents have zero power to change laws. Provisions of the Act that have gone away are due to sunset provisions built into the act. Congress makes laws, no one else. The only thing Obama did was reauthorize some of the provisions.

You had me all the way up to the end. Read PATRIOT II (the actual text of the act. Long dry, but necessary). It was NOT tossed by Obama, it was ENHANCED by congress. That and FISA. Some of the language was changed to be more palatable, but it is still the key to our police state.
The Government will never WILLINGLY give up these kinds of powers once they have them enacted.

I really don't have a problem with intercepting international phone calls, thats not the issue, the issue is freedom for Americans, and your probably right, no way fusion center employees have time to read through every message but I know they do look for keywords and monitor trends...Nearly every new job that obama has created has been with the department of homeland security..here I am talking on a weed forums in canada about obama and about freedom, so it wouldn't suprise me if they pick up on these kinds of things at least if someone here said they are going to bomb something I bet the FBI would be at their house in a second, this site has a very high google pageranking..Also to avoid the authorities for downloading copyright files you should at least use some kind of encryption and proxy, just trying to look out for you so you don't get sued...

Additionally, I might as well say it again...Obama extended the patriot act...he is a supporter of it....as are most of our politicians...except Dr Paul, his son, and a few others...

I am a server administrator for a living and developer, and I know the power of computers, if everything is logged they can simply search the logs to look for keywords and create statistics....Im sure literally every word is not read by human eyes but if they find someone using certain words a lot your damn sure they are going to look into it...they just have code to detect these things, real simple example, im sure its much more advanced - if someone said the word bomb or typed the word bomb 100 times in 2 weeks Im sure people are alerted of this and that they are paid to look into it..

It is exactly the same way that the Internet is operated by System Administrators like myself, to put it simply: log files are monitored in real time and alert me of events and keywords that I should investigate for problems. These alerts are coded by the staff and could potentially be incredibly advanced, just look at googles algorithm, they are the ones that are working with the CIA and homeland security to track us, just google it lol...public information.

The real fucked up thing is: Some dude with a government pass can type in your name and see all your phone conversations and internet searches...anything you have said/wrote over the wire. You are in a database, databases are and hardware are much more advanced today, they can make much larger queries to the database allowing for incredibly advance algorithms with new software and hardware. They could do some amazing things with the database they have, they've hired a lot of people, more than anyone.




Here is the Choice:

Even with current technology and with the times as they are, that choice is just as obvious as always, Id argue that with todays technologies that the issue of liberty is more important than ever.

That being the case, you should know that no human ears listen to every communique. There are literally billions per second. But the CIA and the NSA have the capability to monitor all traffic via computer that identifies "keywords", and kick that communication to a set of human eyes and ears. This is not paranoia, it's fact.

Thats the risk we take. I do take some precautions, but posting on a weed forum isn't illegal, and the closest they can pinpoint my IP addy is over 50 mi from my house. I've tried it, as have many of my friends. We do that to keep ourselves on our toes. Sadly, not every one takes them.
