early harvest vs late harvest

CBN is the result of degrading THC, and too much CBN can make people feel nauseated. CBD is a cannabinoid with medical properties -- used a lot in the treatment of epilepsy and for pain management.

Yes to CBD, no to CBN.

Um ya...sativa/indica harvest basics guys... you want stonier buds, wait til the trichs are more amber than cloudy. Want headier buds, harvest more cloudy than amber. I feel lime this is one of the first things you learn in growing...

Just remember, flushing is also one of the first things you learn in growing, doesn't mean there is any actual truth behind it. Not arguing the point in hand, just highlighting that we are taught a lot of things about growing that are touted as vital, or important, that in reality are a load of tosh.

so inside the trichomes
Geranyl pyrophosphate and a precursor to olivetolic acid react, a c12 (for pentyl) c10(for propyl)polyketide, catalysed by an enzyme to produce cannabigerolic acid,. The production of Thc (and propyl)thcv cbd cbdv and cbc cbcv are controlled by 3 different enzymes Thca synthase being the enzyme converting cbga to thc through an oxidative cyclization of the geranyl group on cbga(of course this is a bit simplified for y'all) geranyl diphosphate + olivetolate =cannabigerolate + diphosphate.. cannabigerolate + O(2) = Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinolate + H(2)O(2)

The plant has trichomes throughout its stages of life, yes the outer waxy layer will be in higher proportion. But hash oil can be made fabulously. The cannabinoids don't develop at different stages at different times.. Some however are much more stable in heat and light. Like cbd for example. An early harvested plant often can smell perfumey soapy and even "green" from corresponding aldehydes and ketones, this will dissapear in the cure with cyclization of those aromatic compounds.
The trichomes turn amber from the rapidly degrading thc and other terpenes (altering that smell) we can so this with a bad batch of hash oil too. Throw it under the hps for 45min and have a beautiful bright red extract

Also I should note, THC largely breaks down into delta 8 etc. Cbn is not a direct product of degradation, quantities rise in freezing conditions unrelated to THC content. Its An enzymatic process. Though it is rapidly formed over about 400°f

Agreed.

If people want green applies, grow granny smith, not red delicious harvested a week early.

Harvest at the right time, when it's done.

I think the whole "harvest when cloudy for head high or when amber for couch lock" is a load a bs. If I want couch lock I'll run an indica until its mature, if I want head high I'll run a sativa until its mature and it doesn't matter how long I let a sativa go, it's not going to hit me like an Indica. That's been my experience at least.

There is more to cannabis than just THC and CBD.

Nope this is totally false and far too many people believe this. For one, pistils (hairs) are not an accurate representation of when to harvest. I've had strains finish with all the pistils white and I've had strains finish well after all the pistils had darkened. Also, it says clear trichs have low levels of THC... Actually, THC levels are at their highest when the trichs are still clear, right before they turn cloudy. Dr. Paul G. Mahlberg did a study where he stuck a tiny syringe into the bulbous head of trichomes and examined their contents and without a doubt, trichomes had the highest THC content before they turned coudy. Of course, THC isn't the only thing contributing to a high which is why its best to harvest when trichs are a mix of cloudy and clear (more cloudy than clear) if you want an up high or a mix of cloudy and amber if you want a couchlock high.

To correct some of the rumors I saw in this thread, THC DOES directly degrade into CBN through oxidation. Letting your plant go to long WILL effect potency and I know this from personal experience! I've been called in to check on a beginner growers plant before and when I arrived I saw a plant that had obviously been going at least 4 weeks too long and the product after curing was not smokeable.
