what most of you guys are saying is hip hop isn't hip hop. just like people who would say sum 41 or blink 182 is real punk don't understand spirit of 77 and spirit of 82. punks still very alive, oi is still very alive, skinheads are always here to stay...hip hop is here you guys just don't know where to find it.

what you guys are all referring to right now is just hip pop or pop music

LMAO Eminem had some good shit BACK IN THE DAY but he is no where near and will never be the best rapper espically when you have people like

Tupac
Biggy
Big L
Mac Dre(If you listen to more then just the Thizzle Dance)
AP9
Rydah J Clyde
Some of Jay Z old shit
i mean come on now

like i said every one has theri opinions and thoughts, what is not hip hop to you is hip hop to others punk music is actually about the only music i do not like. it seems like you are getting mad cuz not every one agrees with you in my opinion Eminem is hip hop/rap.

i love tupac and biggy they to are some of the best, and the only songs i really liked by jay z is renegade witch he was featured in and big pimpin with ugk, some of the others are ok to. havent heard of the other guys besides mac dre, but i really dont like his music at all but thats ok cuz not every one likes the same stuff, im sure if i was high on E i would not mind his music

why would i get mad over music genres? let alone on a forum lol

yeah, obviously everyone has their opinions but just because i think world war ii should be called Imaginationland meets ManBearPig doesn't mean world war ii IS imaginationland meets manbearpig.

i wasn't saying eminem isn't rap. i was saying what you guys keep referring to as hip hop isn't hip hop, it's hip pop. hip hop is a culture not just a title for songs with bass, samples and rhyming lyrics.

i dont care if you don't like punk. my point was there's a misconception. a lot of people think pop punk is punk, but in fact it's pop. they don't know the spirit of 77 and the spirit of 82, or how a lot of people think oi and skinheads are nazi music and a nazi subculture, but they don't know the spirit of 69. its the same for hip hop, a lot of people saying hip hop sucks now and they can't rap for shit, but they're not referring to hip hop - they referrin to hip pop

edit: dont get it twisted, im not trying to start an argument or anything

thats a good explanation and i dont want to argue either. what would you call hip hop then?

ya he is pretty shitty IMO, a few songs are ok like through the wire, and wait till i get my money right. my most disliked rappers would be lil wayne, gucci man and his whole crew of rappers like oj dajuiceman wockaflocka and others they all really suck and rap about nothing. and number 3 would be rick ross

Just some suggestions of hip hop that you ought to listen to:

People Under the Stairs: Start with the OST album, listen to acid raindrops. You'll fall in love instantly. Everything these guys do is amazing. Be sure to play at a LOUD volume.
Gangstarr: Fucking nuts, Guru died on 420 too. Listen to mass appeal and you'll fall in love.
The Roots: Listen to why(what's goin on) and tell me you don't love them.
Black star: Talib Kweli and Mos Def's collaboration, definition is the most poppy song, but still amazing.
Hieroglyphics: If you like Del (The guy who rapped on Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz) then you'll love his band. Battle of the Shadow is the song that got me into them, Classic is their most famous song I think.

That's just scrappin the surface of hip hop. If you notice, most of these bands are old school, but that's my preference. If you are ridiculously high and/or drunk listen to Mac Dre, no one will sound better.
You got some good taste man, only one I haven't heard of here is Black Star, but will check it out.

I quite enjoy oldschool Fugees aswell!

when Kanye first got big he was good Graduation was a poppy album but did have some decent songs, same w/ Jeezy...his first CD was fuckin sweet but it seems like he just went tooo mainstream

gotta agree though i cant stand those mush mouth mfers that u cant even understand, gucci, wacka, Flo Rida eww, and fuckin Drake has got to be one of the worst rappers ever

you are very well entitled to this opinion. i disagree with the racist part though, almost all his friends are BLACK. and since were on the race thing i think black poeple are more racist then whites now, a white man cant go into a black club cuz all they do is talk shit, a white man cant say nigger in front of a black man cuz they will get jumped by him and all his friends. but a black can go into any white bar with no probs, he can say what ever he wants to whites, like cracker, and other things.

yeah, def check out some of them. if you need a lil help pinpointing which artists cater to your tastes let me know because that list is a whole mix-up of different sub genres in hip hop. cnn is def good shit, from queens, like 10 min from my hood.

i like krs one a lot but since you mentioned the bridge is over, i gotta say ...it's a good song but i'm gonna have to side on the other side of the bridge (if i was living in those times) - that song was made during a beef between the bronx and queens

i am open to most music so i will check them all out but not all at the same time, mabye you can let me know a few good songs by each one or a few of them. and i live on the west coast so i dont side over the bridge. and ya i listened to the beef songs over the bridge who was the other guy besides krs1 if you know that was repping the other side

You either know real hiphop or you don't, period. Some of yall really do have it twisted, U can listen to what you want but don't be talking about hiphop when you don't know a damn thing about it. Hiphop on a mainstream level has been Dead for a while now, besides some of the old heads still making new shit... To me theres only a couple dudes in the game still holdin it down, My favorite is GAME...he keeps it real and makes REAL HIPHOP but what would yall know about that haha... Whoever saying eminem is the best... man check yourself his new albums are WACK, he is truely lyrically talented and can flow and freestyle crazy, but the shit he puts out is straight garbage...Check his old albums for real music like infinite... He puts out the same trash as the other garbage mainstream artists.

i bust their old school tunes out everday. i love the 80s-90s rap.
and eminems old stuff, like marshell mathers lp and slim shady lp where by far his best albums. the lyrics, the beats just smacks it for me.
brain damage was one of my favs back then.
