I'm just trying to keep you guys from making the same mistakes that I've made. Once you get mold on some stored buds, and smell that smell, and throw away your prized buds, you will always remember that smell. And every time I open a container of buds, I immediately smell them.

Now you will too.

So potroast-do you think that stale smell or hay-like smell is mold? There is no sign visually. I think I may have noticed it even before I harvested. I pulled out the buds and let air out. I think they are ok now.

Yes hay-like smell is just what I have been trying to figure out. Hay is what some of my buds smell like as they are drying right now. Very weird, but maybe this is a common thing? Hoplefully not bad though.

After you hang-dry your colas and small branches, cut the buds off of the branches and colas and put them (the buds) into brown paper sacks ... I use lunch bags. You can write the strain on each bag if you have multiple strains. Pack them in the bags loosely. The bags will draw out more moisture. Continue to fluff the buds for a few days and continue to keep them in the bags. After a few days, you can transfer them to Mason Jars for safe keeping. You want to "burp" the Mason Jars a couple of times a day for a few days. If in doubt, empty the Mason Jars and let the buds air out for a few hours, then put them back into the jars. The idea is to end up with buds that are NOT crispy dry, but nicely cured. They will still be springy-like, smell great, smoke smoothly and won't turn to powder when you handle them.

The idea in all of this is to end up with world quality, pot snob marijuana, that you grow in a cabinet at home. What could be better than this?

The hay smell is the smell of the clorphyl breaking down. Ever smell a bag of dried leaves? The more leaf matter you remove, the less it will smell like hay. However, if you do a proper cure, that smell should go away after a few weeks in the mason jar.

This was my first grow and I topped this plant. It was a super skunk strain which is a very easy strain to grow and take clones. I fed nutrients that you can find at home depot and used a 400W MH and HPS for flower...........
