Fekin Fungus Gnats

Hello there, newb here :-)
A friend of mine who has been growing for a while explaine d a way for me to get my ph about right, he said that if you mix rainwater which is acidic with tap water 50/50 which around here is very alkaline i would get my ph about right. I did as he had explained but my rainwater was from a water butt which was infected and i now have fungus gnats and lavae , i noticed some advice from a site, link: http://www.gardenbanter.co.uk/showthread.php?t=150971 ( Fourth post down by Val ) which explained that using ground cinnamon in the soil gets rid of them, this was used on orchids mind and not weed. Would anyone have any info on this and know if it would damage weed or give it a strange taste being such a strong scented/tasting spice. Thanks for your time :-)

Thanks mate, i did read about this on the forum and will try this and reduce watering, does the sand also stop the Fungus Gnat lavae from attacking the roots? Cheers

stops them leavig the ground and i guess they just die, dont let it get to dry cause they then head for your roots for moisture, just the sand should do.

Again thanks man, will get straight on with it, i read from one post to use 1/4'' sand and another between 1 and 2'', what you recommend? By the way have you heard of using cinnamon against these pests?

Cheers all, think the Go Gnats brand is American right, suppose i can find something similar here in the UK. Thanks again :)

Went into Wilkos today mate, they just selling Christmas crap now, all gardening stuff gone  Well i managed to get some sand from the play park near me, should be ok if i wash it then put in the oven for a bit to kill anything unwanted, what you reckon?

I'm having a similar gnat infestation. I've tried sand but the little b-tards are still propagating! It's becoming a huge nuisance and they are stressing my girls. I was wondering if I can hang a flytrap? My local hardware store has these flytraps that say "just add water" and "no killing agents" so I'm thinking it sounds safe. Any thoughts?

im having a similar issue and looking for a remedy as well,i thing my issue is fruit flies though.i have an adult bearded dragon in my bedroom with my grow closet.he eats fruit and veggies that attract fruit flies.some how the foung thier way into my garden and hang out around the soil in on my pots,i hung 3 sticky traps too and that isnt helping as they dont seem to fly that high.because they arnt soil knats or something like that i dont even know if they will harm my plants but i dont want to take the chance.im going to try the cinnamon thing and see what happens.i hope it will work.does any have any advice for fruit flies or any natural remedies to get rid of them?
