FINALLY, first legit grow room, in an attic

oh yead dude, this isnt my first rodeo. idk if your read, but i have a 6" inline fan and carbon filter. it will obviously be located right next to my light. the air will vent into the attic space, but attics get hot as hell anyways. i dont see any fire hazard considering a/c units are usually hanging outside windows in the hot ass sun and they have never been a hazard. ill also have a 6" duct fan pulling air from outside and hopefully directly into the intake of my a/c. this will create a flow of fresh air through my room 24/7. and because my inline fan and carbon filter is rated for 400 cfm, ill run it half speed. i bought a fan speed controller for this i dont foresee any issues with heat. oh i did forget to mention that i will be insulating the walls and ceilings. i want to put as less workload on my a/c as possible
The air going into the back of an A/C doesn't come out the front. Not at all. Your filter fan is going to pull the hot air from the attic into your grow space. You're going to have heat issues.

what kind of controller did you buy? a Variac? i ask becuase i want ppl to get the right one and not risk their fan or self to hazard. Variac controllers are the only type that are really made for brushless fans and thats what a inline fan is. when you slow down ur fan with a speedster or other one meant for a brush motor you are creating heat and not saving on energy. if you got a reg one send it back and use the money on a controller that will save you money in the end(fan, and home cost more then a Variac)
A kil-o-watt meter will quickly show that regular fan controllers do indeed save energy. If they do create more heat (doubtful), it can't be very much, and its immediately vented away. Variacs cost a fortune and mostly just reduce noise at low speeds and add no benefit at all at higher speeds. Are variacs a little better? Yes. Are they safer? No. Are they quieter at low speed? Yes. Are they worth the 5x price? Doubtful.

woah woah woah red. you just talked to me like im fucking brain dead. im honestly insulted. so please quit bashing me. im actually beginning to wish i didnt even post on here because of all the haters. and people are continuously posting ignorant comments about my work because they arent looking close enough or reading what has been said.

that duct is coming from a vent in the roof. so when i put my 4"duct fan in it, its going to be pulling outside air. this air will be hot, i fucking know this. this is why its going directly into the front of the a/c.

the a/c unit has been working just fine the past couple days, it hasnt been dripping water out of the back either. IT KEEPS MY ROOM AS COLD AS I FUCKING WANT and the humidity is perfect.

im am fully aware that my a/c doesnt pull air from the back, but thanks for confirming it.

the a/c is re-circulating. it pulls air from the room (hence the green filter) and comes out of the top.

again, im not stupid, i have been testing everything the past few days.

I misunderstood what you were doing as you had not yet posted the pic yet. Until you have a few plants transpiring water in there, you can't really test the humidity. I used a 5,200btu a/c in a 4.5x8x6.5 tent and it would only run occasionally for short periods, not enough to dehumidify enough. I had to add a dehumidifier. If your attic gets above 110F, your a/c may stop working. Personally, I would try to find room somewhere else in the house. I realize this may not be possible.

i realize that im facing several challenges due to my location. but i know people grow in attics, and if other have found a way then so will i. even if i have to re-think this a/c use, i will still make it work.

and what you said about the plants being in there and the humidity, tushay. i should have waited a little while before i relied to everything. i just dont take criticism well, especially when its something im really putting my mind into. and i meant no offense

but im confident in what im building, and it will work. . . i plan on having some nice porn here in 10 weeks or so

So, when i started i had a plan that just didnt seem to work. my temps were not stable and my humidity was high high high. Not to mention my a/c was busting its ass just to keep it the right temp with the light on. But with the light off they would freeze. Not to mention my a/c finally leaked and it was out of the front (into the grow room) and not out of the back as i anticipated. Even though is have a 400 cfm carbon filter, i couldnt use it to suck enough air. Because my walls are made of plastic and also the fact that i only had one 4" duct from outside to create vacuum, my "6 inline fan was about to suck my walls in and eventually rip.

Needless to say i was riddled with issues, but my plants continued to grow big as fuck in my closet. so i have been busting my ass trying to make a good home for them.

I ended up making many changes to the entire setup. the biggest changes are

1. I bought a 4"inline fan to pull air from my room mates closet. this way i have a abundant supply of nice cool air. we cut a hole in the dry wall and ran a 6" duct vent. i used 6" duct on a 4" fan because its about 15 ft long and i did not want to restrict any air flow at all.

2. I removed the duct fan that was pulling air from my roof vent. now there is just a duct (as you can see in pics). the reason i did this is because i realized my 6" inline fan is pulling much harder than the duct fan was pushing. and now i just have better flow from outside.

3. Now my a/c is solely recirculating air within the room. before i was pulling air from outside and sending it straight into the a/c. also because of the new intake system, a huge work load has been taken off the a/c.

Conclusion

Now my room has completely stable room temp and humidity. Im pulling air from mostly inside my house and partially from outside, i would say its 75/25. Everything works much much smoother than it did before.

All those people out there who said it wouldnt work, or what ever other negativity, well you can kiss my ass. As an intelligent person, there was no way i was going to let this not work. Im sorry im not equally less ambitious.

Big thanks to everyone for looking!

I got some time off today so ill be fixing all the minor things like the electric cords and such hanging everywhere. SO PLEASE DONT TELL ME ITS A MESS. and i still need to finish my veg sectiion, but damn i forgot to get velcro last time i was at lowes.

so i have finally gotten the last few and final things done so i can now use my veg room. i used a double layer of 4m thick black plastick to sure all light is trapped in. on my plastic door i put velcro on one side and a split bottom.

inside my veg space i have 4 23watt cfls with reflectors.

i have a 100 cfm duct fan pushing cool air through the small room and out of the top.

my clones are looking well, i wish i didnt germ so many seeds (thinking my clones were not going to take)

RIU is truely not what it used to be. And i personally think that the mods (for the most part) are very negative and criticize other people with no concern of their feelings. people are putting hard work into what they are trying to do, the last thing they want to hear is mods telling them that it probably wont work. very disrespectful

for example, my grow room now works great. but that is with 0% help and support from the forum.

some of you people dont deserve to have your position. (not saying all mods are bad, just the ones i have dealt with)

and no disrespect was taken Sunni. thank you for the compliment.

i said that just because the thought had been growing on me. my comment changes nothing about this place, but at least i put my 2 cents in.

you may want to consider 4'x8' sheets if insulating foam they have at lowes more insulation is always better
yeah i have thought about putting another layer of insulation on the exterior walls. my big light comes on around 8 pm and its on the warm side until the attic itself cools down around 11 of 12. sometimes ill check the room in the morning right before the light goes off. the room is as cool as 77. but also it has never tipped 85 at any point and time
