First grow; 400W HPS, tent, Fox farm nutes!

Hi All,
This is my first grow!

Using:
Grow tent from HTGsupply.com (2x3x5)
400W MH/HPS light w/ supernova reflector from HTGsupply.com
Fox Farm nutrients from Humboldtorganics.com
Superthrive from local nursery
4" inline duct fan
6" inline duct fan w/ 4" reducer
4" fan from Wal-mart
Mustard and Ketchup bottles from Wal-mart

Plants are 2 Original T Haze x Skunk and hopefully 3 Northern Lights feminized seeds. Plants in pics are Haze x Skunk and about 1.5 weeks old. Northern light seeds are germinating.

After germination, I planted them in peat pots with seedling mix purchased from Wal-mart. Will do the same with Northern lights.

Seedling mix has no nutes in it, so I have just started to add 25% of Big Bloom with superthrive.

Things seem to be moving along. One of my Northern light seeds has sprouted(check pics). The other two seeds busted in paper towel, but have not given off the tap root like any other seed that I have germinated..........so, 1 of them went into the soil, the other I left in damp paper towel. We will see!

If these 2(in soil and paper towel) don't eventually sprout, then I still have 2 other Northern light seeds that I will germinate in place of these 2.

Believe it or not, the medium sized plant is a day or two older than the biggest one...........both are Haze x Skunk #1. The smallest plant under magnification is the northern lights. (planted in soil on Aug. 2nd, sprouted Aug. 3rd)

Overall, I plan on doing LST or SCROG. I believe I understand how to do the LST, but not sure on the SCROG.
If I use the SCROG method, when should I place the screen in the tent and when should I start tying down to the screen? In veg stage or wait until flowering?

Anyone have a link to a good SCROG grow/tutorial? Thanks in advance!

Started LST last night, after repotting into 8in pots and here are some pics. I used a wire clothes hanger and cut it into about 6 in. spikes, then bent the end to form a hook. Decided against the SCROG because of some of the plants being different heights.

1 plant in the LST pics had 4 sets of leaves, the other had 3. (Both are Haze x Skunk and about 3 weeks old) I also have 3 northern lights seedlings(feminized). 1 is about a week old, the other 2 are couple of days old.

I have a total of 5 plants and probably too many for my grow space, but assuming that at least one of the Haze x Skunk will be male, I am continuing.

Anyone is welcome to post or give me advice.

Forgot to post pics of what the plants looked like just a day or two before LST.

2 Haze x skunk plants at about 3 weeks old and about 1 week into LST.
3 northern lights.........1 is 13 days old, 1 is 1 week old, the last is 5 days old. (had some trouble with seeds germinating)

The 13 day old northern light was started in LST tonight, but may remove wire until next leaf set.

I hope to start flowering in 2 weeks. May be a little long for Haze x Skunk, but want to get close to full potential for northern lights.........they are more of a guarantee for females.

Update:
My 2 Haze plants are 1 month old.
My 3 northern light plants: 1 is 20 days old, 1 is 14 days old, the last is 12 days old.

All are planted in 8in pots. Watering is about every 3 days, and all are getting the same nutrients........full strength that is. I may have some nute burn, but then again, I have heard that some of the lower leaves yellow and fall off too! And it only seems to be the older plants that the leaves are turning yellow on. The younger plants have been getting diluted nutes all along, until today, and seem to be doing fine. Maybe a strain thing???

I am a little worried about space...........not necessarily in height, since I am tying down the buds, but in width. What are your opinions on the length or width of my grow space? Am I going to run out of room when I start to flower? Should I flower now?

My ONLY concern with flowering now is...........the Haze plants will turn out to be male, evicted from the tent, which would leave more room for northern lights, but then it will be too late since I already started to flower.

nice looking set up man looks like mine can you take a pic of the inside so i can see how yours is set up and what are your temps running at im trying to figure out my temp problem

I can explain my set up a little better too.

House thermo is set at about 75F. I have a floor vent ducted into lower portion of tent for cool air.(see pic) Just inside tent and very close to ducting from floor vent, I put a 4in. fan from wally world and hung it from a wire clothes hanger. I also have 2 other 4 in. fans in the bottom portion of tent for circulation. (1 right now is in the right corner of tent and barely, if at all, visible. The other is right under my light, helping move hot air so it never gets to plants.) I have my light/reflector exhausting air to the outside of tent with a 4in suncort fan from htgsupply.com. I also have a 6in duct fan, purchased locally, with a 4in reducer helping to exhaust hot air from top of tent to outside of the tent.(see pics of fan, or round silver thing, on top of tent.)

My temps stay in low 80's. My thermo inside temp gives a range and the 84 was from the other day, when I kept the tent open too long working on LST! Most of the time, my temps never go about 82.

werd the floor vent thing is really what i need to get cooler air in im a that this into consideration when i move and have to set my tent up again

Yeah, I was gonna wonder how you kept your temps under control in the small tent with the 400. An AC vent would be great, and looks to be doing you well.

I've heard those thunks (thai haze x skunk#1) can get unruly and stretch like hell, but it looks like you got them tied down trump tight right now. I've got one of them going right now too (a baby). Mine didn't germ with a crap, I think you should get a kudos for getting them off the ground on your first grow!

Hey bro where did you get those fans, are they clamped onto your grow tent posts? I have a very simlar grow tent. Damn near identical. Nice setup!

The 4in fans came from Wal-mart, 5-6 bucks. I took a wire clothes hanger and straightened it out. Then made(bent) a hook on each end. One hook fits over horizontal tent posts, then then other is what the fan hangs on.

Update:

I will be turning out the lights in about 30mins. and leaving them off for 36 hours before putting them on 12/12 with my 400w HPS light.

I have been tying them down like a bitch and the two biggest ones are about 5 weeks old..........Haze x Skunk. Both are showing pre-flowers, but can't tell sex even under 60x lens.
I just tied some more down, so it kind of looks shitty now, but you should see all the colas I am going have.
I think they have a little nutrient burn instead of Nitrogen deficiency since I have been using nutes on them. Any ideas or advice is greatly welcomed on my issue. Last 2 watering have been nothing but PHed water, so probably one more, then I will go back to using nutes again and bloom nutes at that.
I think I will add some H2O2 to my next watering also.

The 3 northern lights are:
1 is one month old, the other two are about 2.5 weeks old. My oldest northern light just produced a node with 3 leaves coming out, which leaves 3 buds for that one site. Don't know if this is normal, but nothing like having 3 bud sites instead of 2!

Any and all comments are always welcome. Could I do something better or different and obtain better results?

What is your nutrient schedule? I don't really see any signs of nute burn, and a little bit of yellowing leaf here and there isn't anything to freak out about. It looks more like low N to me, but it is natural for the plant to deplete some lower leaves as it extends growth tips.

How much u think u can pull off of that?

I have been following Fox Farms nute schedule, but when I transplanted into 8in. pots the soil did have some nutes in it. So, didn't know for sure and I have clipped off a leaf or two that did turn yellow.
Yeah, I knew that northern lights were going to be small, but knew nothing about Haze X Skunk............glad I did LST!

I hope I have enough height in my tent for full flowering.

I have no idea.......don't even have a good guess. What do you think? What do any experienced growers think? 1oz per plant? 5oz per plant?

I am assuming at least 1 of the Haze x Skunks will be male and killed on site. Overall, I expect to have 4 plants.

Just started 12/12 with HPS this morning, so about 8 weeks to go.

I have no idea either bro, i am 31 days flowering right now and they getting sticky! I wish i would have vegged longer though, oh wel.. my largest is 27" inches tall...Started 12/12 at 12" Inches so not bad.

MMM i cant wait to see how much i get and curious to see how well that LST works. Nice!
