First Grow - 8 weeks

Hey guys,

This is my first grow. It's been about 8 weeks.

Here's a link to the album.

https://www.rollitup.org/members/fordman101-albums-first-grow-cfl-s-soil.html

We have 6 27 watt CFL's and one 100 watt CFL. Adding a 2nd 100 watter this week.

Some of the lower fan leaves on them feel pretty dry and have some brown spots.

One of them I've topped above the 2nd node so I can gain 4 main colas and it seems to be growing nicely since the topping.

I've also got that runt...

Let me know what you think and if you've got any advice. I've been looking for some nutrients since I want to switch to aeroponics.

The potting soil is miracle grow moisture control and says it feeds plants up to 3 months. Since I switched to that soil they've grown much better, compared to the dirt that I originally sprouted them in that I got from outside.

Yeah they look good, dont add any nutes as of yet as soil is good enough for another week or two.

What strain is it? Also think that you should switch to a 450w HPS, or if you cant use what you got.

Keep the pic comeing! :peace:

If I scrap the CFL's and switch to a 450w HPS will that be enough lighting on it's own for my four plants? Can I use anothe 450w HPS for flowering?

I switched to this soil 4 weeks ago when I upped the pot size.

As far as strain, this is just some bagseed. I wanted to confirm I could grow some plants before getting some nice seeds to grow. I also have a aeroponic system in the works to speed up the growing, but I know HPS lights would be WAY better to use than the CFL's.

TBH 450w HPS would be best, you can use the whole way through the cycle Veg - Flower, when i first started i used a 450w HPS and it worked a treat. Costs maybe 30 pounds with reflector. ( low budget one tho ). CFLs are ok but you would be better off with a HPS. And one light will be enough for yourself if you only have 4 plants .

Also just a little advice dont start with bad seeds, bad seeds leads to bad weed bad weed leads to bad times :hump:. There are plenty of standard cheap seeds you can get for $20 - 30 online.

Just keep what you doing up as you have the right idea, first get the tecnique then spend the $$$$ on equipment. :peace:

I was going to ask how much you had spent on lighting, and then recommend buying 1 600w HPS. From experience, the biggest drag of a mistake is waiting 5 months and then realizing that you could have had a WAY bigger yeild with a better light. I have never heard of a 450w hps, but 400w are available at most hydro stores, HOWEVER DO NOT BUY ONE! You can get a 600w for only like $30 more, which are 2X THE LUMENS of a 400w. It's like having 2 400w for almost the same price. Check out HTGsupply.com

I watered them yesterday and they all sprouted up almost 2 inches today! I was looking around and saw the 600w HPS that was advertising 28k lumens. Does anyone have a specific light they'd recommend? Easy to install?

See i wouldnt use a 600w streight away i would use the 400w HPS for Vegging and Flowering ( and can be used right to harvest ) then if your picky you can swap bulbs for the 600w for the advancced flowering. :peace:

I still haven't gotten that 400w HPS. But the plants are 15" tall now. We scrapped the runt since the new one we planted is already larger than it. We looked at it closely and it grew leaves all around the stem but no branches!

Putting them into flowering this week. Let's hope for some females!

If i am honest m8, i wouldnt flower with a CFL, Just get a 400w HPS or stronger if u can, u gonna end up with such small, fluffy, airy buds its gonna give u a head ache. Trust me m8 u need bigger light. :peace:

Ok for a first time attempt internodes nice and tight, one of the plant on the bottom row has a white speckleing to the leaves i would investagate this has soon has possible.i'm not saying that it is but this whitening is normaly a kind of calling card for spidermites.but all in all the plants look ok a couple look either overwatered or under only you know the answer to this.but keep doing what you are doing and up the lighting and the plants shoulod through you at least a good few ounce a plant.
