First Grow Journal Nirvana Raspberry Cough + freebies

Heat seems to be a slight problem on 600w with the temps getting close to 90F near where my canopy will eventually be so I ripped a 12v fan out of an old broken xbox and I will be adding that as an active intake and hopefully it will bring down the temp a few degrees and I will be fine the room is in my basement too so it should cool down as the temps outside start getting colder

Ill add some updated pics of the plants when the light comes on later tonight I just peeked in there with a flashlight and they all look good and strong now except for the one which I had to seperate the leaves, I'll take a picture of that one tonight and get your guys opinions on whether i should replace it with another seed or try to keep nurturing it.

Alright here's how the plants are doing they lost about 1.5hrs of light today because of a security scare had to take all the plants out of the grow room and hide them in a neighbors yard for a little bit, but theyre back now and they don't seem to have any adverse affects from the cooler temps outside I kept them covered out there to avoid any pests getting in them. Anyways here they are after being put back into the room.

2013-09-29 23.30.55.jpg what do you guys think about this one? It's the plant who's leaves were stuck together that I had to manually separate. TI am unsure if she will recover or if I should just throw a new rasp cough seed in

Not enough people seem interested in this grow for me to keep updating pics, but I will still keep it updated for those who are interested. A few plants started to yellow so I cut back feeding to every other day with a little less than 50% nutes except for the bagseed which need to be watered every day since they're in solo cups, but on days when the other plants are not being fed I just give them plain tap. I'm down to only 3 bagseed one was lagging behind and it just didn't look healthy so I killed it and checked to see how far the roots were and they were just starting to come out the rapid rooter but the bagseed are younger than the fem'd girls.

Also, I read about the gas lantern veg lighting schedule which is 12hrs on/5.5hrs off/1hr on/5.5hrs off and decided to give it a try to let my plants veg instead of going straight into 12/12 I don't like 18/6 or 24/0 because I like running my lights at night only, but one hour during the day I can live with so today was the first day on the new lighting schedule. I put some plans together for a small rubbermaid cfl clone room also so I can take a few clones from the raspberry cough before I switch to flower if I want which I plan on doing on October 20th so I can cut down either the dinachem or the white widow and have them cured for a christmas smoke while the raspberry cough and whichever one I dont chop finish up. I will probably chop the dinachem because I think the white widow will be a better smoke so I want to let it finish (both strains are 8-10weeks i plan on chopping one after 8 and one around 10). I may hold off on the clone room until I purchase my next seeds though because raspberry cough takes too damn long to flower.

Too many good grows going on here. We are watching.

I appreciate your exposing this lantern method. I had heard
reference to it, but it still seems exotic to me.

Good luck,

JD

I'll update with pics a few times I just don't like the risk associated with posting them so I don't wanna post them everyday.

I haven't ever tried 18/6 or 24/0, but if this method yields in the same ballpark like I have read it does some people even claim it yields better I dont get why more people aren't using it. It saves electricity costs makes it harder to trace electricity usage patterns and you can easily use a room as a veg and flower room if you just either took flowering plants out of the veg room for the one hour when the lights come back on, or you could just cover them with something that will keep out light without damaging the plant i was thinking a 5 gallon bucket but that would probably not be big enough for a lot of plants. On a large scale obviously it is much more productive to just have separate rooms but if you have less than 10 plants and limited space this would work out great, but I will definitely be posting yield per plant for others to compare with 18/6 and 24/0 keeping in mind this is my first grow and yield will probably be lower than a more experienced grower using this method. I have not yet decided if I want to do 12/12 for flowering or diminishing light which is subtracting 30min of light every 2 weeks, if you were to try using the method above to have one room for flower and veg obviously diminishing light wouldn't be an option unless you wanted to move out plants several times a day.

So I figured out why the plants weren't liking my nute concentration. I ordered a teaspoon when I ordered the nutes because I didn't know they came with one and I just noticed today its a tablespoon not a teaspoon it doesn't say it anywhere on the spoon I just compared it to the one that came with the nutes thankfully I had only been doing about 1/4 strength nutes anyways so only one plant had any noticeable nute burn on the tips. Anyways I threw that shit out now I'm just using the one the Maxibloom came with I'm starting with 1/2 tsp per gallon and will gradually begin increasing to 1tsp per gallon as long as the plants don't start to burn again.

I dont know if it was a full tablespoon or not i checked the site i bought it from they call it a tea spoon i guess since there's a space its not the same but its definately larger than the tsp in the bag so i will just use that to measure from now on only one or two of them got tip burn and it was only on their first set of leaves new growth is all nice and green so I'm not worried.

Here's an updated pic, just LSTed them tonight I used a string tie to bend back the stems slightly as a support a couple days ago and today I hooked down the tops with wires. Some of them have already started to recover. I also transplanted the 3 bagseed to 3l hempys instead of solo cups hempys two got transplanted 2 days ago and have recovered well the 3rd on was just transplanted tonight. Also switched the light to an MH don't know if I mentioned that already.

Alright I realized today that I don't really have the horizontal space to LST easily, so I decided to remove the platform the plants were sitting on to give them another foot or so to stretch. Unfortunately this ate up some of my horizontal room where the buckets sit so I had to down pot one of the raspberry cough. The one that has been smaller from the beginning got the honors I still don't know if that one is going to make it now that theyre really starting to take off I should be able to tell soon once if recovers from the transplant. Anyways I removed the ties from the rest of the plants and I'm gunna just let them grow for the next week before I switch them over to 12/12. Will update with pictures then

I decided to switch the lights to 12/12 tonight I figured that since I am no longer going to use LST this is basically a SOG grow and most SOG growers switch to flower after 2 weeks from what I've read. All of my plants sprouted more than 2 weeks ago.

Will update when I see pre-flowers the two bagseed seem a little stretchy and I'm thinking maybe males but we will see soon enough. Also rasp. cough #1 seems to be growing a bit slower than the rest it's the one that has had problems since the cotyledon were stuck together after sprout, but it's still growing so I don't want to kill it yet we will see if it catches up with the rest of the gang it was just down potted to a 3L pot, but i don't see any sign of transplant shock.

For anyone still following I sexed all the plants last night here is what we're left with for the rest of flower. We have 3 Raspberry cough left confirmed female (hopefully no hermies) we have 1 dinachem and 1 white widow both confirmed girls (again hopefully no hermies) and then one of the bagseed in the 3L pots wound up being a girl. I will probably chop the bagseed as soon as it becomes smokeable in order to create more space for the other girls and the bagseed bud can hold me over til the other girls have matured. I will update if anything relevant happens the plants have been in flower for over a week now they are all looking healthy and are probably all ~1ft tall. The 1-2 days of LST I tried really brought along some substantial side growth I don't think would happen without that, but all the tops are near the canopy at this point I may cut a few clones off soon.

Edit: I took 2 clones from DinaChem and 2 clones from White Widow. The plan is to get at least one of each to root and grow into mother plants. I left raspberry cough alone because while i'm expecting it to be an amazing smoke I do not want to grow another 11 week strain. I will be getting the supplies for a micro mother/clone room from the hardware store tomorrow right now I have a ghetto 1 cfl room holding the clones until I get the supplies tomorrow. They will have 3 23 watt cfls daylight spectrum and 3 14 watt 2700k cfls eventually but I will probably keep lighting to one cfl until the clones have rooted. The room will be 18" x 24" x 18"H hopefully that will be big enough to keep 2 mothers and start off a few clones at a time.

Alright I got the clones all set up in their new home it looks like it should be big enough for a couple mothers and starting clones. I still need to add some ventilation, but I am only going to run one 23 watt bulb for right now so it shouldnt get hot while I wait to get a fan. The clones are in rapid rooters in a homemade tray and dome until i figure out what I want to put them in once rooted. I figure itll be at least a week before I see any root growth outside of the RRs.

And just an update on the girls progress.

The tallest one is just about a foot tall the rest are all within a few inches of that.

wound up getting a little more than an ounce per plant for anyone interested the 3 raspberry cough were closer to 1.5-2 oz i now have upgraded to a larger room and have added a rubbermaid clone/mother room for my next grow
