Hey johny, another question... How do you cure your nuggs?

I normally let them hang in a closet for a couple days, then I put'em in a cardboard box for a day or so..... Then into the jars where I burp them daily and if they seem too moist i'll spread them out on some cardboard for a couple hours a day until I'm happy..

Always interested in how other people do it.

Fuck yeah 100degrees! do a grow journal!

I just hang the branches for about 3 days(very dry here). When they are crispy on the outside I cut all the buds off and pop em in grocery bags. I do this for a day or 2 then to jars. I breath these once a day for an hour or 2 until it is 65% rh in the jar. At that point they are ready to cure. I just breath em a few minutes a day and after a few weeks they just get sweet. The longer the better in m book;)

Here is a great piece of info. I am doing my ss this way. First time to try it!

This method is particularly effective for folks who are starting out, thoselooking to maximize quality in a shorter period of time, and folks who's liketo produce a connoisseur-quality product each and every time with no guessworkinvolved.

It's a very simple and effective process:

Cut the product, trim it per your preference, but don't dry it until the stemssnap. Take it down while the stems still have some flex, but the product feeldry on the outside. This is a perfect opportunity to drop the dry-feelingflowers onto a screen and collect prime-quality kief that would otherwise getlost in the jar.

Jar the product, along with a Caliber III hygrometer. One can be had on Ebayfor ~$20. Having tested a number of hygrometers - digital and analog - thismodel in particular produced consistent, accurate results. Then, watch thereadings:

+70% RH - too wet, needs to sit outside the jar to dry for 12-24 hours, depending.

65-70% RH - the product is almost in the cure zone, if you will. It can beslowly brought to optimum RH by opening the lid for 2-4 hours.

60-65% RH - the stems snap, the product feels a bit sticky, and it is curing.

55-60% RH - at this point it can be stored for an extended period (3 months ormore) without worrying about mold. The product will continue to cure.

Below 55% RH - the RH is too low for the curing process to take place. Theproduct starts to feel brittle. Once you've hit this point, nothing will makeit better. Adding moisture won't restart the curing process; it will just makethe product wet. If you measure a RH below 55% don't panic. Read below:

Obviously, the product need time to sweat in the jar. As such, accuratereadings won't be seen for ~24 hours, assuming the flowers are in the optimalcure zone. If you're curing the product for long-term storage, give the flowers4-5 days for an accurate reading. If the product is sill very wet, a +70% RHreading will show within hours. If you see the RH rising ~1% per hour, keep aclose eye on the product, as it's likely too moist.

Some well-worded and executed How-to using this technique from later in thethread:

I cut the plants, and trimmed them. All of the drying was done in 45-55% RH and 70-75f. I hung them up in the cabinet I grew them in, lights off, with the ventilation still going. I had some inner air circulation fans during the grow but I turned them off for the dry. They were hanging up for 3-4 days and the outsides of the buds were feeling dried out, but the stems weren't quite snapping yet.

This is when I stripped the buds off the main stem and put them into jars. The humidity eventually rose to 65-72% so I took the tops off and let them sit. They quickly lowered to the ambient RH, around 55% () I then put the lids back on, and I've been doing this for a couple days now, and they're slowly stabilizing, and I'm extremely confident this will be a great cure. Once they're stable I'll be uploading a screenshot of a spreadsheet I've been tracking the humidity in the jars with, hopefully someone will find it useful/informative.

Maybe this will help someone, so I'll add my $0.02

Started drying about a week ago. Finally had it down to 68% (not stabil though) in the jars, but was not comfortable with it at that point. Looking for around 62%.
Presently we are into a week+ of damp / rainy weather. Ambient air is high 80 to mid-upper 90% RH. a little high for here, but not unusual.
How to get the jar below ambient was a issue for me. So I came up with a test.
1 gal. glass jar
1 lb. white rice
1 qt. jar of bud
2 paper lunch bags.

In the oven at 250 degrees for 45 min. to a hour with the paper lunch bags and rice. Idea is to dry it out as completely as possible.

Once out of the oven, Place bags and rice in gal. jar (loosely capped) to cool.

Okay, now fairly quickly remove contents from jar. Open 1 bag and add rice. Stand it up in the gal. jar. In other bag pour in the buds and install into bag of rice. Slip a hygrometer between outside bag & glass so you can see it's reading, and seal it all up. May take a bit of persistance to get it right where you want it. But go slow.
While aiming for 62%, when the hygrometer rises to 60% I'll put the bud back into it's cure jar and let stabilize. Repeat if needed. The meter will start out really low (being dry) and will rise as it draws moisture out of the bud. Suggest you try and stay right on top of it because it seems to work faster than I expected.
Starting with 72%, made this routine 2Xs and I'm almost perfectly stable at 63%. I may go 1 more time,, but I'll let it sit a day or so before determining that.
This was a spur of the moment idea. Seemed to work for a smaller grow anyways and I'm sure something could be changed or modified to be even better (easier/faster?). This was really flying-by-the-seat-of-the-pants as they say. (ie; not very scientific)
Anyways, living in the mold capital of the universe, I had to do something and relatively quickly. Seems to be working fine.

Hope it helps someone else.

HTH,
Simon

Yeah but I just fill over the top of the pump. As long as there's enough water for the pump to pump, everything is good. Man your grow looks excellent. You obviously know what you are doing;)

Thanks Johny! Only been doing this for a year and on limited budget! I'm just a half noob soil guy. Learned a lot of shit on this website, some advice turned out to be bullshit, other advice is gold. Just gotta weed through it.

They pretty much grow themselves :)

Anybody have opinions on trimming lower suckers and fans? I am wanting to get some airflow below the canopy and see some people trim the bottom 1/3rd of the fans and sucker branches. Any input would b great!

Personally, I trim some of the lower branches because they're a pain to trim at harvest, BUT I keep all leaves intact.

I leave my lower branches and make dry ice hash with them and the trim off the buds. I did lollipop some og18 clones this go around though, just to see if I can tell a difference in main cola size.

I may go ahead and do like HB. Get some suckers out but leave the fans. It is just a clusterfuck down there right now.

HB- I am seeing a few brown tips on lower fans. Minimal but it looks like mg deficiency. I am running 3ml/gal mag pro currently. Would it be safe to go to 5? Bloom 4ml/gal, grow 1ml gal, protek 2.5ml/gal, mag pro 3ml/gal currently. Ph 5.8 at .9 EC. I did have a little tip burn Saturday and backed off from 1.2 EC to .8 for the past few days. I had upped the ec friday from .9 Everything seems fine but those original tips on new fans. If you have any input I will love you even more than I already do;)

I never go past 2mls/gallon of magpro with RO water in hydro. I don't use magpro in the dirt.

Your tip burn isn't a deficiency, it's overfeeding. Don't 'test' feeding levels then back off when you've hurt the plant. It's not about 'what the plant can take', it's about what the plant needs and I think you're giving it too much. .8 EC should be more than enough until harvest.

Sweet, I am trying to take it easy. The tip burn is obvious, I do see lower brown tips but nothing alarming. Since I am RO in coco I will stay at 3ml mag pro for now. I will just keep here at .8 unless they show signs of under feeding. Looking at burrr's grow he ended up at .85 with great results. Thanks for your input!

15 Days Flowering
Everything is still looking good. I have both strains running the same feed schedule still at .85 EC and 5.8ph. I added an additional feeding during lights on- they are drinking alot at this point. The smart pots are full to the top with roots. I stuck my finger in and immediately hit roots. Seems like the great white is really helping and I am really happy with the coco. I will do another update next week but hit me up with any questions or pointers!

All I can say is WOW, they've really taken off. HUGE even, you're gonna definitely be a happy camper.

I love it man!

Sorry to hear about your deficiency with the black jack, I know 0 about coco growing issues but I'm sure you'll straighten it out. Sometimes those lower fan leaves do some funky things.

Still looks like you're perkin right along.
